Hi Barbara, thanks so much for sharing that case.

I have a weird case on which Phosphorus and Ignatia have failed to
work and "Ailments from music" seems to be the core issue. Ever since
she heard a specific song, she developped a chest-felt anguish that
never went away. This was about twenty years ago, already. Her present
complaints incluse hypothyroidism with typical physical manifestations
like very bloated face and eyes where the features are much distorted
from the swelling, sleepiness, leg cramps, etc.
Calcarea, Nat mur and Cimifuga were given to her by a previous
homeopath without any ameliorations, but she didn't mention the song
episode.
The anguish from the music never went away, and she says it's
physically linked to much trouble breathing ("block when letting air
out") which causes sadness. I'm still not sure if Kali Sulph is
right; she's actually a cold patient...

Any insights would help.

I must admit I thought of Ignatia when reading your mail, but without the rest of
the case it will just be 'stabbing in the dark'. If the sensation is felt in the chest, it
generally indicates a heart chakra remedy like, e.g. Ign/Nat.mur, but not
necessarily, as need to know more about what actually happened and continues to
happen when she hears a certain piece of music maybe? What was the event, and
was it associated with any fright/shock or other negative emotion, or is associated
with a former positive occasion ?

Btw, Ambr. gris, Sep, Kali carb, Carc., and Calc all figure in hypothyroidism and
music aggravates, and they all lack vital heat and experience anguish. Hope you
can make something out of the above anyway.

Dear Barbara, Shannon and Venkat:

I'm leaning toward Nat Mur (thank you Barbara for the heart chackra
insight), given to her by a previous homeopath, but in a very low
potency.
The song is "SpanishEyes", and this was the first time she heard it.
She says that she sunk into the song and was overwhelmed by its
beauty. Immediately followed a nostalgic feeling of not being able to
reach the kind of love depicted by the song. A profound sadness of not
being able of living and attaining that beauty came about.
Suddenly she felt heart palpitations (never felt before) and a never
before felt anguish that started to increase. She felt scared by that
new feeling of anguish and much fear of remaining in that state of
anguish. She then "realised that [her] life couldn't be the same", as
if something very tragic had happened in her life. How was she to get
her old calm back? All of this knowing that if was herself who with
her own suggestion and fear of fear would remain feeling permanent
anguish; just by thinking and knowing the feeling existed. She was
about to be married to a man she was not in love with (this might be
the central issue).
Years later, that feeling of anguish and pain, which was there all the
time, produced "lack of air", with sighs that brought no relief. This
feeling of "lack of air" produced more anguish. All of this, knowing
that it was self-induced.
She says that she had children so that the physical impact of being
pregnant would distract her from the anguish. Her three pregnancies
(and all throughout the pregnancies) did distract her her attention
from the "emmotional lack of air" (which is the expression of the
anguish) bacause of the immediate nausea and discomfort. When the
anguish got unbearable again, it was time to get pregnant so that she
could be so fully occupied. This happened every five years.
She says that she was always nostalgic as a child, and she would go
"listen to music" , that she created herself in her mind. She would
hear orchestras and symphonies lying on the grass, closing her ayes,
and she could do this at will.
She is extremely impressionable and hypochondriacal.
It seems that her present physical symptoms started upon visiting a
friend dying of TB in the hospital. The terror, disgust of the sight
of disease, grief, pity, sorrow and anger at God ( that He would let
something like this happen to someone "so good")exacerbated all her
mental and physical symptoms. She says that when her friend died, she
got close enough to the coffin that the "smell of death" entered upon
her, throwing her in a state of panic that something similar would
happen to her. She couldn't stop thinking of her friend being "trapped
in a coffin" underground. She also has great fear of narrow places, is
extremely suspicious, superstitious. There is much weeping from
melodies and lyrics that are sad or beautiful.

She took Cimifuga last week (previous homeopath) and I'm waiting for
the effect to pass, so she's taking a placebo. Thyroidinum has done
nothing for her hypothyroidism over the last six months. Ignatia
worked for her in the past for a six-month long vertigo but she
*thinks* the previous homeopath gave it to her again, and didn't do a
thing. I'm actually considering the possibilityy that the bloating and
swelling of face and eyes might be a sinus infection accompanied by
and/or not the thyroid problem, for she cannot stop blowing her nose
and lots of watery mucous secretions come out. There is pain in the
right eye and head now, with decreased vision and dimness esp. right
eye. She tested negative for TB.

Thank you SO MUCH for all the rubric help, the remedies suggested and
the questions. I will look at Ambra, too. Any other insights are more
than welcome.

home" as Piet describes. Interestingly we get this symptom of "wanting
to go home" in Bryonia also, again predominantly a chest remedy. All
latent tubercular patients are extremely sensitive to music and get
distressed from songs that they may have liked in the past. The
patients get over this as they develop and find renewed interest in

Homeopathy has a lot to do with intuition and observation. It is this
aspect that makes the study so daunting, challenging and rewarding.
There is no end to studying and learning. While shifting through the
remedies we must not forget that we are in fact studying the human
nature. A vast subject.
