The diabetes case as requested, the notes are copious and so I have
summaried as I don't think they are all useful and I don't really have
the time to type the whole lot out. Apologies if it is overly precised
- it is amazing how you can whittle a case down to the bear essentials
but it is the essentials that count.

Child, female, aged 6 when she came, nearly 7 when she finally got the
simillimum.

History - pregnancy and birth for mother was normal although she had
thrush during pregnancy
Child was fine although never really strong
When she was 4 years old she had a vague incidence of general malaise.
I say vague because there was no diagnosis and sx were poorly
remembered although it was thought to be viral and at one time that the
kidneys were involved but they tested ok. The child, during this time,
was weak and fatigued and complained of pains in the back and upper
abdomen. when the mother pointed to the area it seemed more like the
liver area. There was some nausea and vomiting described as sour and
nasty smelling, < after meals, also a mild fever for a short while. No
medications were prescribed except the occasional child pain relief and
it resolved itself in time.
This was before she came to me but looking back I think this might have
been Pancreatitis and the beginning of her IDD.
General malaise continued to be a problem periodically.
In time she began to lose weight and the typical sx of IDD developed,
increased thirst and urination, strange eating habits either no
appetite or insatiable, dry skin, very tired. She was finally diagnosed
with IDD and insulin treatment began, initially with animal insulin
(parents not sure which).
Her nature was variable, either despondent or irritable. She was often
like this when she was brought to see me.

She had a bad reaction to the insulin (some oedema around the legs and
some trembling) and also the special diet instructions she was given
(she craved meat and acid like drinks and her thirst was difficult to
quench). The type of insulin was changed at least 3 times. Her parents
showed concern regarding not only the treatment but with the dx, they
were extremely anxious about the future and decided to seek homeopathic
help. They seemed to think she might have cancer. Overall the
allopathic care was appalling.

She continued to have the sour and nasty vomiting. Her appearance was
really quite poorly and she had a great deal of time off school which
made her feel even worse, she just couldn't cope.

Blood sugar levels were often high but very variable. There was at
least one incidence of ketone which indicates the liver involvement and
I made a connection with this and the earlier so called viral condition
she had.

There wasn't much else in the case. I prescribed Mag carb 30c. Nothing.
I repeated this because I was quite confident and wanted to give the rx
a chance. Still nothing.

The parents weren't very good at keeping appointments but much later
they rang to tell me that nothing had really changed but a new sx had
developed. She had bouts of diarrhoea that was burning her bottom so
much they couldn't find anything to soothe it. I prescribed Medorrhinum
30c. Not a good choice because it made her much << without any kind of
following improvement. Looking back at the mountain of notes I have on
this case I can still sort of understand why I gave this rx but I
chastise myself also because it was ultimately wasting time. Nothing
else was shifting - time to ponder and stare endlessly at copious
notes!

Finally I prescribed Iris vers 30c. It seemed so obvious then but I was
astonished at the immediacy of the reaction - not because homeopathy
was working but that even through the insulin treatment the simillimum
did its good work. It was repeated 3 times throughout a period of 7
months (as far as I know because the parents had a small supply and
their communication wasn't very good). There were no aggravations, she
just stopped feeling poorly, no vomiting, no nausea, no malaise, her
digestion changed completely and settled down, her pallour changed back
to normal, she gained weight and strength and her moods evened out. She
became a lovely person. Her parents, who were probably in denial about
her IDD (they were so convinced she had some sort of cancer) stopped
the insulin treatment. Fortunately they didn't tell me about this for
at least 2 months but power to the people

I will say I had doubts about the dx (but I am like that with all
diagnoses) and have no way of knowing if this was a false one. I
really don't know how a mistake can be made so I like to think this was
a situation where homeopathy won the day, again.

Thanks for that and yes I would agree that it looks here as if this was a Type 1 IDD that was cured.Can you say more about why you chose Iris? I still think you should get this case written up for the journal.

What miasm is this case? Is not diabetes considered sycosis? Is Iris
noted anywhere as antisycotic. I do not have access to my books...

If the pancreas is not functioning properly by under producing or not
producing insulin, then surely it has to be regarded as PSORIC.

What evidence is there for organ DESTRUCTION?

Somehow that's how I'd had it in my mind--maybe what was said was
simply "death" of the cells, which I realize would not mean the same.
I'm interested to hear thoughts!

I am not sure whether the Isle of Langerhans producing insulin die one by
one or cease to function.

When someone like Joy gives the correct Remedy, do we get new ones to start
to function or the ones that had stopped working to start to work again.
I feel the latter.
If that is the case, then I would opt for Psora rather than anything else.

Of course with diabetes we have other reduction/failures in function, eg
poor circulation, inability to effect good repair (hence gangrene) etc.
In any case, other than prescribing on presenting symptoms, how would the
knowledge that the case may be psoric help you to select a remedy?

When I finally made progress into the case I realised that the main sx
hadn't changed at all and these were the ones to prescribe on and of
course the rx had to have an affinity to the pancreas. Added to that
the sourness, the pain in the liver area, periodicity, burning pains,
bouts of diarrhoea that left the anus really sore and burning, profuse
urination, general malaise and despondency with a lack of
concentration.

Other have asked about miasm. As always, every case has to be looked at
individually not only through the miasmatic influence of the main
pathology but also other influential factors that might suggest a mixed
miasm.

Beta cells can be either destroyed or rendered dysfunctional. HOW they
become so might also be significant, miamsatically speaking.

Agrawal places Diabetes as both Psoric and Syphilitic and Iris as
Sycotic. Sankaran places Iris in the Malaria group which is between
Psora and Sycosis. The family history of the case was very Sycotic
(hence one reason for the Medorrhinum) but I felt the child had quite a
Tubercular appearance and her moods matched this to a degree. So I
suppose this case was very much of a mixed miasm.

Apparently there is new drug research in antibodies to suggest that the
beta cells can be regenerated. If the allopaths can do it, so can we
)

Boericke suggests Iris v for Gonorrheal rheumatism and so this might
be an antisycotic remedy...

Of course knowing what antimiasmatic group it is, is not going to
help me much... and that is exactly what I have been saying...Still
it is the symptoms that matter...
