Thank you for all your suggestions and comments on a good
manufacturer. The concern that brought my original question was
this; I have to wonder if the increased sale and demand of
combinations will cause these manufacturers to concentrate on combos
to the point that they will neglect the integrity of the singles.
Also, because of the path of distribution that these combinations
are taking I am very nervous about the reputation of homeopathy as a
whole and of the effects the long term use without proper
instructions and knowledge will play on the general public. Case-in-
point, my introduction to homeopathy was with a teething combination
remedy for my infant son. I was lead to believe that this product
was completely safe, that I could keep using it till I felt he was
no longer in need. There were no instructions except to take every 4
to 6 hours. This lead me to the use of several other combinations.
Again with no idea as to what I was doing. I did find the suggested
relief from their use.
But is this truly homeopathy??? This was almost 2 decades ago. Today
I am finding combinations in so many new places. Once in a while I
will call a distributor (not manufacturer) of combos and ask about
this and as yet not a single one knows anything about what they are
selling. Just that the product will do what the label says. A couple
of these combos contain 200 potencies in the mix.
I feel that it is in all of our best interest if we could do what we
can to nix the demand for these combinations. Try to keep them out
of the hands of the inexperienced. What do all of you think?

I think the answer is education, education, education, rather than
restriction, restriction, restriction.

I have a drum that I like to bang occasionally and it is this:

If all the pharmacies and the registration organisations GOT TOGETHER,
they could organise a program to educate the public. There is any
number of influences they could have which would be so much more
effective than the current situation where one or two letters a year
get written by the registration bodies in anger to rebuke some offense.
They would have sufficient funding JOINTLY even to do TV ads.
But they don't and won't, which I think is short sighted. That there is
such a problem working together I can only guess comes down to egos,
there certainly can't be any logical reason behind it.

If we could all pull together and focus on the places where we *do*
agree, we will have such a greater chance of standing up to whatever is
coming down the pipeline.

Some people feel that collaboration despite philosophical and
practice-related differences would amount to "sleeping with the enemy",
and would lead to all of "us" in our purity and rigor, being absorbed
into the agglomerate mass of "them" and their non-Hahnemannianism (er,
sorry, I am linguistically impaired this morning! ). But I
would say--it need not be so! I feel that preserving sub-groups and
definitions and (even) boundaries is a *good* thing--but only so long
as we can use them to *define*, rather than to separate.

For e.g., if we can accept that (picking one example among many)
combinations are (a) useful in some circumstances, even tho they are
(b) not classical (and arguably not even homeopathy, at least not
according to the definition of the person who invented the term) and
(c) have advantages and disadvantages which are *different* from those
of single remedies...

Great idea Simon although I sit on the fence when it comes to the
availability of all rx and all potencies to the public.

On another note though I would like to know if Castlemaine 4x has been
proved yet

LOL! Yes I think it has, it results in growing a long tail, elongated
feet, retracted arms, and a bounding gait!

The use of combos bought you to homeopathy and in turn you became very interested in the subject. What is needed , beyond boxes of combos on shelves is education and we as homeopaths need to do that. Classes given at local health food stores, local libraries, wherever. We don't need to teach every week, I tend to teach in the Fall, Winter and Spring since Summer is too busy for people to come. The number of people vary each time but there are usually 10 or more, And I always explain minimium doses no matter the topic.
