Minutus

Dear Minutus folks,

I am wondering if any of you have successfully treated a patient with
Primary Progressive Aphasia. I know very little about this condition on the
physiological level, but I have a relative who has it and I'm wondering if I
should encourage her to seek homeopathic care, if she's open to it. If
you've encountered this in your practice, I'd be curious to know what your
experience was. As for my relative, she's also asthmatic,and has been taking
(cortisone?) for most of her life. Can this make her untreatable by
homeopathy?

Dear Satya,
Primary progressive aphasia, just by typing these 3 words, none of the classical homeopath can or should advice on remedies/prescription.
There are many causes from which a person can become aphasic & on each cause the prescription changes. So, its a sincere advice for you that either you should personally meet a qualified classical homeopath along with the patient or chat(live) with him/her.
Regarding your other query, asthma is 100% curable by homeopathy, I myself had treated no. of patients permanantly.

Thanks for your reply.

If you read my post you will see that I wasn't asking for remedy
suggestions, prescriptions, or long-distance case management. I know
that this isn't the way homeopathy works. I mentioned the name of
the condition because I thought it communicated certain things about
her symptoms, and that someone on this list might know if PPA was a
condition that involved a degenerative process that is considered
beyond the scope of homeopathic treatment. I mentioned the asthma
medication because I'm assuming that it acts in a suppressive
fashion, and I could imagine the possibility that a lifetime of
suppressive medication could have an effect on a patients
curability. (I could also imagine that the asthma and PPA are
closely linked, and that homeopathic treatment could induce a
potentially life threatening aggrivation on the way to "cure". But,
I really don't know.)

To Minutus at large: I'm still interested to know if anyone has seen
patients with PPA and what your experiences with these cases have
been.

(Please know that I have been reading Minutus for a while, in
addition to reading from the Organon, Kent, Roberts, etc. I'm not a
homeopath, and don't pretend to be one, but I am a little bit
educated.)

I don't see any reason why homeopathy cannot treat/cure PPA. If the
diagnosis is correct and all other dx have been eliminated then you are
left with a whole range of valuable sx particular to that individual
and that is what we prescribe on.

The cortisone almost certainly will have been suppressive and might
even be causative. The asthma of course can be treated and as to
whether the lifetime use of cortisone has taken the individual beyond
help, only a consultation will tell you that. If the individual is
still expressing sx then there is always something to go on.

Great care would be needed in case management, i.e. with dose and
potency to avoid aggravations regarding the asthma and I imagine the
case would take quite some time to resolve with frequent back up and
communication between client and homeopath. A challenging case.

The linkage and the reason for it between PPA and asthma, apart from
the fact that they are occurring in the same person, will no doubt
unfold during consultation but as I said the cortisone use could well
have been causative.

A somewhat different aphasia case then the one posted..

After the experience we had last week with a acquaintance im willing to
believe that there is a connection between the cortisone and PPA,
i can not prove anything, nor im i sure.., im not a doctor.

my acquaintance had some kind of hernia in her back, for 3 weeks she got
weekly injections with cortisone, after the 3' injection last week she
got a brain stroke that left her with paralyzation right sided, and aphasia,
docters say that it has nothing to do with the injections.
i must say that this person also has minor heart problems for the last
years.

we are 8 days further down the road now, the paralyzation has cleared,
the aphasia is gone for 85%, there are still some words that are lost,
no good time definition, does not remember pin codes etc.

but alas this person is a not into homeopathy
Satya if yours is willing i would give it a go like Joy suggested.
