There are quite a few, but to choose which will work for *you*, must be
done by a well trained homeopath, who will spent quite a lot of time
with you in order to work it out. Are you interested in help for
finding a homeopath, or finding out more about homeopathy?

And I would also suggest that you try some behavioral / cognitive
therapy as well- even hypnotherapy under well trained professionals
might help apart from homeopathy-

Hello,
How then do you determine the success of the homeopathic remedy? If the
patient improves, what was the contributing factor/s?

Paul

Generally the "direction of cure" is quite clearly the result of homeopathic remedies, on the physical as well as mental/ emotional levels. I've never seen, for example, old eruptions or discharges recur as a result of psychotherapy. The two modalities work well together, and homeopathic treatment often helps people make faster, more decisive progress as a result of psychotherapy. Rosemary

I generally do not combine these...when I do I have always started
hypnotherapy first.. I have not had a lot of success with homeopathy
or at least as much as I have done with hypnotherapy and
others...esp. in entrenched cases where patients have adjusted their
life style to the disease... I have mentioned about this in a
previous post as well..

I am not generalizing to say that Homeopathy is not effective in OCD -
it might be just my limitation..

I usually start with therapy/ hypnosis and after a few sessions
prescribe constitutionals once I have started seeing
improvement...Sometimes ( not often) I have started and continued
treatment with homeopathy...I do not remember any case that I have
started with homeopathy and gone on to hypnosis... most of the time
by end of 2-3 months if I do not show any improvement with homeopathy
the patient leaves me -or I send them away - whereas with hypnosis it
is easy for me to show some improvement within few days to weeks..

Most of the time not just in OCD - the way I want to see improvement
is when even unconnected symptoms to the main presenting complaint
start improving..here I would want to see some change in any
accompanying physical symptom and in the outlook of the patient...
If the effect ( when I combine homeopathy with hypnosis) is mainly on
mental symptoms I would only credit hypnosis.

Any way prescribing only based on OCD symptoms in homeopathy is
itself treating it one-sidedly. I would not do that if I do not have
some accompanying symptom. I need to see improvement in other
symptoms after medicine before I would credit homeopathy successful.

Moreover any symptom that goes to strengthen the diagnosis ( most of
the presenting complaint if not modified by a strong modality /
concomitant) is not a top grade symptom for finding the remedy...Even
in OCD the treatment should not be aimed at treating OCD symtpoms per
se... but what accompanies it..

For me always concomitant is the key- for finding the remedy as well
as assessing the treatment effectiveness..

Hi Rosemary,

Sure, but as you will see below, my question related to the hypnotherapy,
not the psychotherapy.

On a theoretical level, a patient is more susceptible to a remedy because of
similarity. When you change the core susceptibility (e.g. a delusion or
anxiety state) as quickly as might occur with hypnotherapy (as opposed to
psychotherapy) then one shouldn't be surprised if a remedy fail, which may
or may not happen. It's an unknown.

A patient has many different facets on all levels. So let's say there is an
improvement in the anxiety levels, but the OCD is still ther, or it changes
to something else, how do assess progress with the remedy and the
hypnotherapy?

Hello,
At what stage do you decide that further improvement is from the remedy and
not continuing from the hypnotherapy given? i.e if a patient continues to
improve, is the remedy successful? And once the patient is
improving/improved, how susceptible are they to the remedy (seeing as a part
of their totality has been changed), or would they now need a different
remedy?

Paul

Hi, Paul.

I guess we have different concepts of hypnotherapy. I've experienced its use as a kind of "acute" intervention to change a specific symptom (e.g. desire to smoke, food cravings, etc...), or as in-depth sequential sessions where the person is taken deeply into memories and feelings through an initial hypnosis at each session, and the results are similar to psychotherapy, although over weeks and months rather than years. In either case, the evolution of the client's combined physical and emotional symptoms as presented in homeopathic follow-ups should indicate whether and how the remedy is working, it seems to me, based on the "direction of cure," as in other situations. Sorry if I'm being obtuse. Rosemary
