Minutus

Hi,
Yesterday I saw a patient who came into the room and insisted on stopping the fan from spinning - she said side to side spinning makes her dizzy, although she's fine with up and down. Can anyone suggest a rubric for this? She has a history of motion sickness from childhood, but now can even go on roller coaster rides with no problem.

Do you mean an oscillating fan that moves from side to side whilst
spinning? What actually happens? Does she feel compelled to move her
eyes to follow the fan or ?? What sort of sensations does she
experience with this dizziness?

You could use:-

vertigo with obscured vision

vertigo on turning the head quickly

vertigo on turning left to right

vertigo on motion of eyes + rapid motion of eyes

vertigo, looking at a moving object + revolving objects (probably the
best ones)

vertigo looking sideways

Yes, it's an oscillating fan moving from side to side. I tried to get her to be more specific about her reaction, but she could only say "it makes me dizzy and unwell".
This patient came to me because over the last two months she has been constantly sick, very sensitive to any virus that's doing the rounds. The only change before that time is that she stopped taking the pill after taking it for around 13 years. The other noticeable element in her history is that at the age of 8 months she almost died after a triple vaccination (I'm trying to find out exactly what was in it), and was hospitalized and received blood transfusions. I noticed Thuja in the "looking at revolving objects" that you suggested, and it may be relevant to the case but I'm not sure yet.

However, it makes me think more of that rubric where turning the head to the side gives vertigo.
That is, I'm stretching it to mean that turning the head to the side (even slowly) could somehow be equivalent to one's vision seeing the objects moving side to side.

Thanks very much for this. There are some aspects of this case that point to Med, and some to Thuj. I see Thuj is more represented in this particular sympom, but not heavily so. I may start the case off with placebo in order to see if more will come to light before giving a remedy.
