Person is currently on Aur ars in LM potency, does wonders for his
mentals and generals, but has not touched the damage caused by physical
trauma 50 yrs ago, old knee injuries, multiple surgeries, no cartilage in
knees, and resultant damage to lower back and neck from one leg being
shorter than the other.
The diagnosis is peripheral neuropathy, (cartilage in spine, upper back
and neck, I think are very thin and person has been in chronic pain for
ages. Nerve damage is causing the loss of sensation in the extremities,
mostly lower.
He is in his 70's so I believe palliation of the physicals may be in
order, I doubt we will get a 'cure', so am thinking possibly a low dose
(had been thinking tarent but this SRP has me wondering if there is
something better.)
Aurum ars has been a good fit for lots of 'internal' pathology as well as
the mentals.
However, something to address this pain and walking difficulties is
definitely attractive enough to drive me away from 'the one remedy at a
time' situation in this case (referring to ongoing discussion),
sometimes I think we must be a bit flexable much as I would like one
remedy to 'do it all', don't know that my skills or knowledge are up to
it under these kinds of conditions.
(and yes, he has tried the glucosomine and chondrotin route, B vitamins
have not helped, and neither has many of the supplements suggested for
this kind of condition.)
Thank you all for your suggestions, I appreciate your imput.
Warmly, Maria

Thanks Liz, had given Agar several years ago, perhaps didn't go low
enough for a long enough period of time, will look at the remedy again
armed with this information - perhaps a 6C in water a couple of times a
day will make the difference.
We are dealing with something that has been around for 50 yrs, maybe I
need to learn more patience?

Re: Digest Number 2104
Maria-
I could feel the concern you have for him and I appreciate that...
hold on to it...
It is not sure that by combining medicines you are going to achieve
something immediately that you have not been able to achieve with
single remedies... Using single remedies at least you are able to
point that a few years back Tuberculinum worked for him... What made
you select Aur.ars and where would you want to go from there...
other Aur salts? Looks more syphilitic to me...Aur iod is a
combination of Aurum and Iod which is as syphilitic as it could get-
Boericke has Senile Paresis for it.... Plumbum which came out good
in Sensations has lot of sclerotic potential...like his knees and
spine... Arg.metallicum does not look too bad either...
Of course you would have gone past staph...Since Tuberculinum has
worked it can be followed by Syphilinum in case it were to fail
now...
Be careful with ocean rubrics... make sure that is what is
happening.. Is it the ocean or the travel by ship and the rolling?
Is it being by the seaside?
When you have cross referencing the for the same condition
that modifies it would be better to become more particular than
general - the same condition ocean might > certain things while <
some others... may be ask him more in detail about this..
If you want post the full case so that everyone has a better back
ground... what kind of pains, both knees? The pain in extremities -
how do they occur, what happens to the back on various positions...
Are upper extremities involved as well.. if so what was the order in
which they were... is there any sided ness in the condition?
Chrnology of the injuries that he had suffered... what happened
immediately before he got this spine problem? any precipitants...
In one of my good successes I had a 60 year old walking bent into
the clinic with back pain... similar to yours...disc prolapse- He
used to be a Xray machine sales and service engineer - so knew all
the orthopedicians in town.been to all physiotherapy and thru all
pain mediciations. he had this pain continuous for 3 years... 3
doses of Pulsatilla 200( based on Kent
< lying on back I think) made it vanish in 3 days..He came smiling
to my office in about a week and was totally free of pain for about
6 months when it came back ... because he had more medicine with him
he tried the same Pulsatilla for no avail ( modalities have
changed) ..now he was better by belching ( Sepia 200 once again
immediate relief for more than a year after which I lost contact
with him) ... No do not give up hope just yet... low potencies
might be better ( low for me usually is 30)... LM might be too..

Dear Maria,
It's very possible that this person is not curable. Nevertheless, achieving relief using the remedies that come up as they come up is wonderfully helpful. So please don't be too hard on yourself.

I seem to have a vague memory that it's possible for cartilage to
re-grow. Has anyone seen that?
