Cramp beginning in the toes?

It's looking like my epileptic friend is coming up to a change of
remedy. I've got some new info to chew over, but am having trouble
finding something. She says she can get "excruciating" cramps, which
begin in the toes; toes curl downward. Then the pain moves into the
arch of foot, and sometimes up to calves, or higher if the imbalance is
strong enough.

I recall this is a keynote of cuprum (which is definitely in the
running at the moment), but am trying to find what other remedies might
have the same, and haven't been able to find an appropriate
rubric--anyone know one, or other possible remedies?
Thanks,
Shannon

Actually I might not be able to get much more than that...
She says it happens when she gets too much magnesium, out of proportion
to the calcium. And that it does happen also if she takes *no* calcium
or magnesium; she doesn't remember when this started happening, but
later I *might* be able to extract more information about it. Mainly,
tho, I was struck by the fact of it starting with the toes, and
proceeding toward the center.
Thanks,
Shannon

Dear Shannon, is this related in any way to her epilepsy, if so this
type of 'beginning' is quite common and so you would need to
particularise this to you client - what else makes it special to her.
You don't mention any modalities (except for the connection to calcium
and magnesium in another post). But if she is messing around with
calcium and magnesium supplements then you do need to know to what
extent these are having an effect on her sx.

Is this also connected to the mold problem. However you might end up
guessing at these causations and they cease to become less important
than the factual sx.

Does the depletion you mentioned earlier also come into the sx picture.

The upward direction of the pain would appear to be important. Another
useful rubric would be contraction of muscles and tendons, toes, drawn
downwards. You need to put all this information together and, as
always, rank the sx accordingly.

A number of remedies come into play just on what you have written, not
just Cuprum - plumbum; ledum; veratrum; nux vom; causticum; mag phos;
stramonium; phos; arsenicum and so many more.

By the way Nay mur does have this cramp like contraction as well! Best
wishes, Joy

Thanks Joy,
I suppose the tendency to cramping is related to the seizures, but not
directly--apparently not related thru specific trigger, or by time. No
evident connection with the mold issue. I *think* she was saying that
the cramp tendency predates all of this, but will have to ask again.

The upward direction of the pain (cramp) is what I'm specifically
hoping to follow up on. Knowing it's in the cuprum picture, I thought
I'd find it in an extraction of cuprum rubrics, but haven't found it so
far...

Are these remedies

all ones that have the upward motion of cramp, or are you looking at
other factors?
Thanks,
Shannon

The pains of Cuprum are usually knife like, so 'thrusting' would be
more typical rather than 'shooting' in any direction although there are
ascending pains in the upper part of the body. But the 'cramps
beginning in the toes' might be enough because the foot is small and
the sensation would have to end somewhere if it 'begins' and one way is
up. In other words the cramps beginning in the toes is higher ranking
than the upward motion especially if this only happens sometimes. But
go by the MM's rather than the reps when it comes to finally deciding
on any rx.

But cuprum is also in the rubric Generalities, pains, direction,
upwards as are all the other rx as far as I know. The magnesiums are
huge as far as cramps are concerned (and many have convulsions) and I
wondered about Plumbum because of the toxicity issue.

I think modalities such as what > will help enormously here
towards deciding as well as how she reacts to the pains.

But if you say that this cramping pre-dates everything else then you
have to determine whether this is a return of old sx or not.

Best wishes, Joy
