Mango.

Prakash Vakil, India.

I do not believe in using small remedies if they are only covering one or two symptoms. If they are coming under one or two rubrics only and if they are prescribed in high potency they can produce homeopathic suppression which is worse than allopathic suppression. If incidentally, a small remedy is found useful in practice it would mean that this particular remedy should be proved properly. I have conducted a number of provings and have clinically collected a number of "clinical symptoms" of various remedies.

For example, "Mangifera Indica" may be considered to be a small remedy if you refer to the materia medica. I have conducted a proving of this remedy and it has turned out to be a very useful remedy which resembles Ignatia.

Just the way we say that Calc-c is useful in patients who are fair, fat and flabby, Mango is useful in patients who suffer from "Hyperacidity". Mango is known to aggravate hyperacidity. Stress also aggravates hyperacidity. A.

patient of Angina Pectoris who may be improving with Lyc., may get aggravated from stressful factor like "loss of business". Any complaint that is associated with hyperacidity gets further aggravated when the stress increases his hyperacidity. Thus, Mangifera can be compared to the super-added stress which aggravates the stress symptoms. It is useful in such conditions and when administered brings the patient back to the previous stage when constitutional medicine would take over the action.

This would be a new concept in the management of patients. I will give you an example:.

Here was an adult male aged 42, who had had two broken relationships and was suffering from various complaints (physical and mental) and hyperacidity. Time helps to heal. He recovered when he became involved in another relationship. For about six months all went well and then suddenly this woman (who was in her menopause) started picking quarrels with him.

The matter did not end there. She was a lawyer and she served legal notice on him, and this poor man had to go to a court of law several times.

When I saw him, he used to get chest pains - in spots, changing in nature.

He would wake up at 3 a.m. with pains. He sighed involuntary. He had burning pains under the sternum (hyperacidity) which decreased by drinking cold water. He said "As long as I work in my office I am not aware of my problems but when I come home and start thinking about my problems I am miserable".

Normally, one would think of Ignatia with pain in spots, grief, involuntary sighing and decreasing occupation. But because I have proven this remedy, i.e. Mangifera Indica, I found that all the symptoms fitted into Mango, and not Ign. The other symptoms which also confirmed Mango, were desire for white or cream coloured clothes, hay fever with whitish, sticky and stringy discharge. He was given Mango 30DH, with which he was greatly relieved and was brought back to his previous stage, where the symptoms were bearable.
