Dear all, I am new member and need the help of experts.

I have some hope in the homeopathy for the treatment of infertility in
male cases having low sperm count and immotile sperms.
Can Damiana mother tincture can cure the low sperm count and can
increase the no of sperms and is there any other treatment for this and
what are the drugs to increase the motility of sperms.
Special thanks, do answer in details and prompt.
Thanks, maktabs

Dear Maktabs

I found the following on one site
"Damiana is used as a general tonic for the nervous, hormonal, and
reproductive systems. It has an ancient reputation as an aphrodisiac. Some
claim damiana tea has a relaxing effect not-unlike low doses of cannabis.
Others argue that Damiana has no active ingredients, and that its medicinal
reputation is based on damiana tonics from the late 1800s which were
inactive, or contained enough alcohol and/or coca to produce unrelated
effects."

and also if you go to http://www.nutriherb.net/damiana.html there is a claim
that it improves the quantity and quality of sperm. However this is a
COMMERCIAL site.

"Damiana contains substances called terpenes, beta-sitoserol, arbutin,
alkaloids and various aromatic oils that have a stimulant effect on the
sexual apparatus and help to build sexual health and reproductivity. These
nutrients work to restore and enhance sexual functions by increasing blood
flow to the organs and for overall health of the sexual reproductive system.
Damiana also works as a tonic for nervous or sexual debility.

Possible Benefits

Potent aphrodisiac and sexual stimulant.
Improves sexual desire and sexual performance.
Increases blood circulation to the organs.
Increases sperm count in males and strengthens eggs in females.
Alleviates anxiety and promotes sense of well-being.
Promotes energy and helps with weakness and exhaustion.
Helps balance female hormones and alleviate menopause symptoms.
Helps relieve constipation.
Helps with bronchitis and asthma. "

I am not sure if any of the above claims can be substantiated.

Please also see http://www.zhealthinfo.com/fertility.htm where nutrition is
discussed to a degree - it is obvious that if nutrition or digestion is
inefficient, the body cannot access sufficient materials to produce sperms.

------------

In my view, investigations should be carried out to find out whether there
are any maintaining reasons for the sperm quality and quantity. Areas to
look at would be food, drink and rest, usage of alcohol and also things like
the sweetener aspartame. These are things that are often over-looked
because they have become everyday things in some families.

The type of underwear used is also important. The testicles are supposed to
hang free so that they are cool and hence can produce sperms efficiently.
Tight underwear will cause the testicles to be push up against the body and
consequently their temperature goes up causing poor sperm production.

Although the quality and quantity of sperms is going down generally, this in
a strong way reflects the general health of the patient - So you need to
think about the history of the patient, any childhood diseases - eg mumps
and any other inherited miasms. So in such cases, it is no good to treat
the particular - the WHOLE person needs to be treated.

My recommendation would be a good constitutional prescription by an
experienced homoeopath so that the centre of the case can be found.

Several of these would seem *delightfully* easy to substantiate (or
not)! Sure, a "trial of one" is not proof of anything... But since
Damiana is a little ol' herb, with a looooong history of use behind it,
I can't see any downside to trying it!

(And as for the rest--good answer, Soroush!
Maktabs, your question was more properly aimed at herbologists than at
homeopaths! As Soroush said, homeopathy treats the whole person, not
single symptoms in isolation.)
Best,
Shannon

There are so many more medicines with LOOONG histories - I have known
people who have taken Damiana by litre bottles...with nothing to show
for it - neither in the bed nor in the crib...Perhaps it is better
than a local application of Cantharis or hunting Rhinoceruses for
their horns :-)

Dear Israr

Are you saying that Cobalt Nit cover all such cases? Or do you think that
the case should be handled as I have expressed?

If the former, please advise evidence.
If you agree with proper procedure, then what was the point of coming up
with 'best remedy' idea?
