Woman describes a new visual symptom:
It only appears at the outer peripheries of my vision. Usually only one eye
[has been reported once on left side and three times on right side]. It's
the same effect as looking through water where the distortions are sort of
wavy. The segment of my sight where I see this wavy sort of thing starts at
the lower half or upper half of my peripheries then increases in size until
almost the entire outer portion is engulfed. It's intense. It's weird.
It's distracting. No increase or decrease of light (no dimming) and
definitely not like the flashes I used to have. I still have good distance
and close up vision while this takes place. The headache comes in about 5
minutes.

Background:
This lady had severe migraines for about 30 years. Comes from a family
where high percentage of females have migraines, and a few males have
cluster migraines. A male cousin who had them, died of brain aneurysm at
age 23. With homeopathic treatment (and avoidance of food triggers for
about 1 year) she now only experiences diminished migraine only at onset of
her period. She previously had the classic 'scintillations' visual symptom
but does not report that symptom now. This new symptom appeared about 6
months ago.

Question:
Using the 'classic' language found in the reps, what vocabulary most
accurately covers the watery, wavy, distortions that she is now describing?
swimming, trembling, vibration (as of heated air), wavering,
confused???????? None of these seem quite right, and I would really
appreciate any ideas.

Thank you for the swift reply. I have a few follow up questions:
1. I perhaps mistakenly equate the word 'illusion' with 'false concept or hallucination' rather than a perception or interpretation of visual input - more in the category of the false information produced by a magician - the old 'smoke and mirrors' sort of thing. Do you consider a persons perception of distortion of vision to be an illusion?

2. I am confused by the 'swimmin in diarrhoea' - since I interpret diarrhoea to mean excessive frequency and looseness of bowel movements. Do you mean that a possible rep for the previously described distortion of vision would be that she was having a hallucination of swimming in excrement?

1. When using 'vision - wavering' - do you think we can apply that when only a segment of the vision appears to waver and the entire visual field is not involved?
2. The specific "sees waving around a luminous opening" would imply to me that the individual perceives a bright door, hole, window, etc. and that the waving phenomena only occurs around the edged of that opening - rather than an occurrence perceived at the peripheral of the visual field. Am I being too literal in that interpretation?
3. I have only used the word 'whirl' to describe circular or spinning motion. Is it also used to describe non-circular distortion?

So many of these questions may arise from the subtle/or not so subtle issues of translation, or even modern usage of old English vocabulary. I very much appreciate your help in both tracking down and better understanding of the rep vocabulary.

Hello, if I might offer something. I think any any 'perception' or
'illusion' has to be enquired about. Although the swimming like visual
disturbance is very common with people who have migraines and probably
doesn't need to be interpeted too much else it will become misleading. There
are a number of rubrics that connect migraines and visual disturbances.

This could be the condition called asthenopia and you could use that. There
are so many rubrics that are all about visual disturbances such as vision
dim as full of water. I also think that if your patient didn't have
migraines then the visual disturbance would be more important but when you
group the symptoms together wouldn't the fact that she has migraines "at the
onset of of menses" be just as important. Thank you, Kerry.

I quite agree, and normally would not have persued this to this point. However, this is a case where the migraines were vastly improved and this is a totally new symptom (or rather she perceives this in a totally different way to any of her previous visual symptoms). Also it hit at a moment when I have the time to ponder my choice of words, and the words available within the rep - oh that is a dangerous thing. I start to question my own use of words, then the possible words used by provers, then how they are translated, etc. etc. etc. I love to learn more about homeopathy, and tend to make opportunities to study, but sometimes it's easy to get carried away.

I have got what I think is Trigeminal Neuralgia . Any suggestions please!!! I have just thought what this painful toothache extending to the left side of my face, to the ear and eye and when very acute lasts about 20 mins. It can appear any time of day or night and between bouts I wouldn't think there was anything wrong. It would also explain why my dentist can't find anything wrong with the upper or lower teeth on the left side. It's hard to say what starts it off but today it started off during the cool down at aerobics and this has happened before. Sometimes a hot drink/food or cold will start it off and sometimes it wakes me from sleep.
All suggestions I will pass on to my homeopath!!!

If no help you may need to find some other anchor sx in the case or go
beyond symptoms and try Sankaran method (sensation/taxon, kingdom, miasm
triangulation which can now be extended beyond plants, if her rx is not a
plant rx).
