not worth commenting" Then it becomes easy to discuss.

One of them may be Homoeopathic Dilutions, It will be difficult to convince
any body with scintific launguage of today.What ever to be done is on
logical basis.
I always request them to know the method of preparation of Homoeopathic
medicines.As you have mentioned dilutions up to 12c canbe identified .But
same 12c dilution is used as base material to prepare 13c potency. At 13c
potency level no matter is found.(by available methods)It is illogical to
think at13c potency ,matter is not existing, it can not just get evoporated
or destroyed ..This logic makes the scientist or rationalist to think
themselves and try toaccept that matter exists in some form,which science
has yet to develop to identify.If scince can not identify ,it does not
mean matter does not exist. We may have to argue only this way.
Generally if I can not convince them clearly ,atleast they get confused
and stop arguing

Like above ,if he can list some more points I can put up some logical
argument .

We'll never deal with Barrett and his like by continuing to try and convince
them! Doing so is simply feeding them with just what they want. This is what
they thrive on. And no, politeness is not big in their repertoire. But
whoever said that their arguments had anything to do with reasoned debate?

We are not thinking as homeopaths here!

If we want to shake them up a bit, a more effective approach IMO is to put
forward an argument which demonstrates convincingly that *their* beliefs are
no less "religious" than their perception of homeopathy. They are attempting
to subvert "science" to support their argument. By using good science to
demonstrate that their own position does not hold up to scrutiny (which it
doesn't), they are then left standing in nothing but their superstition and
prejudice.

This approach, incidently, is generally applicable - both to all shades of
nay-sayers *and* to the rampantly rabid "homeopathy-cures-all" types on our
own side of the fence. Good science merely shows us how little we really
know.

Dr Ben Goldacre in his column 'Bad Science' has on many occasions stated that Homeopathic remedies are based on placebo and homeopathic remedies are nothing but sugar pills.
Homeopathic remedies have been tried on human volunteers and the symptoms that have been generated in such exercises - called a proving - have formed the vast Homeopathic Materia Medica. The prescription of a homeopathic remedy is then based on matching the symptoms of the patient with those of a remedy. The study of the homeopathic Materia Medica will show that some very strong physical symptoms can be generated during a proving using a 30 C potency. That is where the original substance has been sequentially diluted and potentised in steps of 1:100, thirty times.
I have challenged Dr Ben Goldacre and any like-minded person to take part in a re-proving exercise where a homeopathic remedy is tried on volunteers to see if any of the originally recorded symptoms can be generated. He has refused to volunteer as he is concerned that something that he calls just a 'sugar pill' is capable of making him sick

The logic of his stance fails me. How can a 'sugar pill' make him sick? So he must know something to which he is not admitting.
Therefore until he changes his mind, The Guardian should not publish anything against homoeopathy by him or indeed any one else who refuses to take part in such a re-proving.

Dear all,
Don't you think that the common definition of homeopathy needs to be editted?
This is what you see under the term homeopathy in Merriam-Webster:
'a system of medical practice that treats a disease especially by the administration of minute doses of a remedy that would in healthy persons produce symptoms similar to those of the disease'.
You find similar words in other dictionaries and encyclopedias.
Let's have a discussion on this issue. I believe that this inaccurate description is the origin of common misunderstandings about homeopathy and the future and survival of homeopathy somehow depends on this definition.

There have been many discussions on this. One very drawn-out one was
on homeopathy.com some months ago. Nothing was achieved.

However, knowing that your views (in my opinion*) are generally
well-balanced, I should still be interested in your definition.

*That's the crux of the matter - it is all a matter of opinion.
