Hello!

My daughter's friend has Sickle Cell Anemia, and although I've heard of it, and know it's genetic blood disease, I've never realized the PAIN that is involved in this problem. Has anyone worked with someone with this situation, and what were your results? Is there a protocol for sickle cell anemia? Has anyone published a Homeopathic book on this?

Hi Jennifer
The pain is caused by the clumping together of the sickle shaped blood cells
and is called 'sickling' - the shape contributing to this, and it is more
likely to occur in the smaller vessels - this clumping can also occur in
organs causing problems - and when it occurs in the spleen leads to
increased susceptibility to infections - which often leads to their demise.

I was only reading this the other day as this query was on another list I
am on with regard to herbal treatments for the problem.Here is a response
from someone on that list:

" Herbalist Alan Tillotson, AHG, has worked extensively with clients with
sickle cell. I know Prickly Ash (Zanthoxylum spp.) is a big part of the
protocol he has developed. It is also one of the herbs traditionally
used in Africa for the condition. I think he talks about it in his book
(the title of which I dont have handy)... "

In the Reps look up Thallasemia to get an idea of rems

Farokh Master has a reference to Sickle cell anaemia and other blood
disorders in newborns and infants in Ferr.met.
He also has Cadm. met for Thalassemia in Synthesis

Radar lists the following rems for acute thalassemia minor -
ARS. calc. chin. chinin-ar. crot-c. crot-h. kali-ar. nat-m. sul-ac.

all attributed references to Kent.

Carc. is listed in RU for Thalassemia with the reference being Micklem, R.D.
(1951- )

From what I have read Jennifer, this is a tough one to impact upon.

Yes, it is very painful. The simillimum, as determined by the actual symptoms -- where when how, etc... -- should be a good remedy, I should think. Rosemary
