incurable diseases

Hi,
2 queries, possibly but not necessarily related
What do you understand by the expression 'incurable diseases' ?
And what, if anything, do you find to be the most *frustrating* aspect of homeopathic practice?
Context for queries is a conversation with a colleague who was quite shocked by concept of labelling diseases incurable and . I wondered if it was one of those areas where different people had different interpretations. Hahnemann seems to talk of cases being *made* incurable by poor allopathic or homeopathic treatment.
Any views welcomed!

Hi Theresa,

It is a definition I don't use.
-certainly never before treatment starts (( because no matter how bad
the usual prognosis, miracles do happen) and not even after because I
never give up unless the Px does. (By that I mean not just giving them
Homeo but also if I think someone else can help) I work on the basis
that if something seems incurable then that is the limit of my
imagination and I need to learn something completely new.
Also I have cured or seen cured too many so called incurable Dx to buy
that term
I think it's more of a question of how many blocks to cure and
maintaining causes need addressing?
certainly cases have been seriously complicated by allo meds or poor
hom Tx but I'd never say incurable, just a question of unravelling the
string, may take a while and much thrust and parry.

What do I find most frustrating?
-Accounts!
-making up and sending out Rxs!

I never find cases frustrating as I love a conundrum, so the more
complicated it gets the better I like it:-)

regards

Simon

Not words I use very often either but I would say that one does need to
recognise, or at least have a notion of how far the pathology is advanced in
any given case and match this with what can be achieved from a homeopathic
point of view. In other words, be alert to danger signs of end stage
pathology and how one might address that sometimes palliation can achieve
more in the short term than struggling to find a distant simillimum. Careful
case taking should make those options/decisions easier and you certainly
shouldn¹t classify a case before the case has been taken.

I agree wholeheartedly with Simon on the 2 frustrations he lists. It takes
me ages to make up rx, don¹t know why, perhaps sensitive to opening too many
in a short space of time, although I do strive to give a rx at the end of
the case taking but not always possible.

Frustrating cases come in the form of those that have been messed up
homeopathically this is ten times worse than a case messed up by allopathy
in my opinion.

Best wishes, Joy

Hi Joy,

I would love to hear your thoughts/observations (and anyone else's too)
about what gets a case messed up homeopathically, and anything you care to
add about how to recognize and manage that?

and i guess by messed up homeopathically you mean npatient that have been given to many remedies that were
not the best choice? can you elaborate a bit on it please?

Usually comes in form of self dosing but unfortunately also from other
homeopaths and always over dosing using high potencies of an obviously wrong
remedy, sometimes even more than one remedy. By overdosing I am talking
about long term daily use. The end result if often a picture of the given
remedy or a mixture of many remedies. In these instances you sometimes have
to go right back to the beginning of the case and rework it from there but
if it has been a year or more it can be difficult for the client to remember
how things were.

This all depends on how sensitive the person is but in some really sensitive
cases this can be messed up just by repeating a few times.

You will know through case taking that overdosing and self dosing has been
going on (if they admit to it) but sensitivity isn¹t always obvious and so
the first dose of any remedy has to be a single dose, single remedy and
watch and wait. But we know that don¹t we :-)

I have had mixed success with such cases.

Best wishes, Joy

I don¹t have time to write at length about diseased states and pathology but
just to say how important it is that we know about disease progress and how
physical and mental pathology can advance. Anatomy, physiology and pathology
have to be part of our studies and knowledge and understanding.

For example, if you do not know how to recognise someone who is experiencing
extreme heart failure, apart from being in serious problems you simply miss
the opportunity of helping that person homeopathically if you insist on
prescribing for a larger totality that doesn¹t have an emphasis on the heart
problems.

Hi Joy,

What you wrote suffice for me, and i agree that it has to be part of the homepathic learning program
But even with these added studies its hard to recognize how far a diseasy is progressed if you do
not have prove with doctors records

Thanks for the answer

Sometimes yes, but total weakness, submission, apathy, lack of reaction,
lack of irritability but possibly extreme anxiety and fear, skin colour
changes, extremes of pain, and many more (all of chronic conditions) that we
need to be aware of as well as so called medical emergencies.

Best, Joy
