Exactly Jeremy !

ANH and the food combinations are facts about how food
should be eaten not what should be eaten. For example
when they say, water should not be drunk immediately
after eating, it means simply because the digestive
juices and saliva simply get washed away by the water.
These rules work realy well - for some people.
IMO these rules apply mainly to people with weak digestive systems,
Following these 'rules' will cause other people to digest their food to quickly and
feel hungry again sooner than they should. Many people will be satisfied
longer, (and therefore eat less, have less energy swings etc.) if they mix protien
and carbs at every meal. I work with Jules Catell who uses Iridology and
various other tools to determine which clients will work best with food
combining(or more acurarely not combining) diets and which should mix, as well as
which clients will do best on high protien, high carb or mixed diets etc. Some
of her clients are surprised and delighted when she tells them they should
eat a good fried breakfast, others will get the opposite advice of course.

Jeremy, my person experience heartily supports your point of view! Years
ago my life was *hugely* improved when I learned about the rules that Venkat
has described--most of them were at that time important to me. At that time
I had a very weak digestive system, and also a very sedentary lifestyle.

Over the years (mostly due to homeopathic treatment) my digestion has become
stronger, and I began to find, first, that I didn't *need* to follow so many
of those rules, and eventually that I often do better if I *don't*
(especially when I'm getting enough physical activity). I do think it's
another "try it and see"...

The one rule that I could *never* follow was the part about water--I think
(find for myself) that if one is thirsty with or after a meal, one should
drink then. After all, leaving those little digestive enzymes high and dry
can be a problem too, and for folks with high water need, *that* is the
greater danger than "washing them away".

Actually, I think it's really valuable for all of us to have awareness of
different ways of eating that help some people, and work to get a sense of
*which* people (under which circumstances) may be helped by each. In the
end, tho, the bottom line is what works *for the individual*.
