In tune with Joys post, I add my bit about food. This
is based American Natural Huygene, the central point
of which programme is food combination. I composed it
long ago for somefriend. Here it is :

GOLDEN RULES OF EATING
1. PRINCIPLE OF EATING FRUITS:
Fruits always should be eaten on empty stomach. The
stomach will be empty in morning and 4 hours after
eating solid food. Fruits should never eaten after
food. Reason: Fruits go down into the intestine within
1/2 an hour. Soild food remains for 3 1/2 hours. If
they combine both will get spoilt. 1/2 an hour after
fruit you can eat a solid food. A breakfast of only
fruits is an incomparable food. While eating a number
of fruits the sour fruits( pomgranate, mango) eaten
first and the sweetest( dates) the last.
2. PRINCIPLE OF DRINKING WATER
Water should never be drunk during meal or within
three hours after meal. Drink one to one and a glass
of water ten minutes before a meal. You will not feel
thirsty after it. If you reduce salt, sweet and spices
in food thirst will come down. Remember, thirst alone
should decide your intake. Stop once your thirst is
quenched.
3. PRINCIPLE OF EATING SOLID FOOD
To all extent possible, avoid mixing protein foods
like meat, egg, nuts, milk etc with starchy foods like
rice, wheat etc. Lunch is the ideal time for taking
solid food. If a solid food dinner is planned, it
should be before 8.30 pm. If it is delayed. Prefer a
fruit dinner. Vegetable are ideally combined with both
proteins and starches. Have them plenty.
Shun all waterless foods such as biscuits,
bread, sweetmeat etc. Your food should have plenty of
water content.
4. PRINCIPLE OF DRINKING MILK:
If you want to drink milk , always drink on an empty
stomach. Never with or within 4 hours after eating a
meal. But 1/2 an hour after taking fruit you can take
milk.
These golden rules will result in a peaceful bowel
movement, no heartburn, no acidity, no stress,
excellent sleep, no gastric problems, and above all
such peace to the mind. Try it to experience it.
Combine Yoga or walking to these to get the perfect
fitness regimen. You will lose weight much faster than
you can imagine without any fasting or reducing
intake. Your skin will shine. Woman will mensurate
painlessly. Children will become smooth and bright.
Blood pressure will regulate.
Diabetics don't fear. Fruit eaten in the above way
will never increase sugar level. On the contrary,it
will regulate the entire system and may even decrease
it.( presenty dont have data to support).
All the best.

I'm interested in what you wrote, Venkat. Tell me please where do
fats (i.e. mono- and poly-unsaturates) come in? Are fats best
combined with vegetables and/or starches? Obviously, there is a fat
content in nuts, but this seems not to be adequate overall. What
information do you have with regard to fats? Thanks in advance :)

Very good question Tony !

Fats are combinable with starchy and proteinous foods
with vegetables as buffer- lots of vegetables. The
rule doesn't apply to milk fats.
I recommend you read
1. Fit for Life
2.Unlimited power ( Antony Robbins- there is a chapter
on food and a chart of combination there.)

I think that an eating regime to suit everyone, without individualisation is
almost as futile as giving everyone the same remedy.
'The Metabolic Typing Diet' by William Wolcott and Trish Fahey is well worth
reading IMO, It does not have all ofthe answers, but there is a lot of
information there.

Exactly Jeremy !

ANH and the food combinations are facts about how food
should be eaten not what should be eaten. For example
when they say, water should not be drunk immediately
after eating, it means simply because the digestive
juices and saliva simply get washed away by the water.

The bootom line is Eat what you want and suits you ,
but follow the rules. I think you have read Fit For
Life; I will also try to get a copy of Metabolic
Typing diet .
