Dear all,

digging into history, I thought I would pass on some information from an
article in Stapfs Archiv.

Perhaps some of you are no familiar with the name of this Journal. IN
JW's book 'Faces of homoeopathy', you'll find some info + the picture of
the medical doctor Ernst Stapf (often regarded as one of Hahnemann's
favourite disciples and the strongest support of the pure Hahnemannism;
several of his articles he wrote under the pseudonym of 'Philalethes'),
who started the first homoeopathic journal 'Archiv für die
homöopathische Heilkunst' in 1822. It contained provings, cases, book
reviews, articles of all sorts from people all over the world. The last
issue was published in 1846.

In this article 'Overview of the cases treated here homoeopathically in
the year 1846', the medical doctors Krummacher and Kiesselbach in Bremen
in Northern Germany publish the statistic of their cases. (As Stapf
confirms, they have a purely homoeopathic clinic.)

They list:
- name of disease
- number of treated
- number of cured
- number of ameliorated
- number of uncured
- number of patients who changed to other treatment
- number of deceased

For the year 1846 there were:

- number of treated: 2800
- number of cured: 2593
- number of ameliorated: 117
- number of uncured: 14
- changed to other treatment: 36
- number of deceased: 40

Interesting numbers, don't you think so?

Now, what were the diseases treated by the doctors in their clinic (I
have 7 pages, so I'll just pick a few):

Toothache
- number of treated: 264
- number of cured: 250
- number of ameliorated: --
- number of uncured: --
- changed to other treatment: 14*
- number of deceased: --

(* teeth had to be extracted because of their bad consistence)

Inflammation of the brain of children (hydrocephalus acutus)
- number of treated: 7
- number of cured: 6
- number of ameliorated: --
- number of uncured: --
- changed to other treatment: --
- number of deceased: 1

Chronic constipation
- number of treated: 18
- number of cured: 13
- number of ameliorated: 3
- number of uncured: 2
- changed to other treatment: --
- number of deceased: --

Diarrhea (rheumatic and catarrhal):
- number of treated: 42
- number of cured: 42
- number of ameliorated: --
- number of uncured: --
- changed to other treatment: --

Syphilitic diseases
- number of treated: 23

- number of ameliorated: --
- number of uncured: --

Acute catarrhs of trachea and chest

Whooping cough

Organic heart diseases

Well, they did a lot of work, those 2 medical doctors (Kiesselbach, BTW,
was a Dr.med. AND Dr. phil.)

to achieve success rate of above 90 % with a hundred
odd remedies. I think it was at the same time as
Boenninghaussen.

Now I realise why some say that with what is available
in Boenninghaussen's ( or Boger's) you can treat
'nearly' all your cases.

You're right: 2593:2800 = 92.6%

Not a bad ratio!

Concerning the ration we should keep in mind that the word 'cured'
referred to the case of disease.
I.e. when somebody came with nosebleeds (13 cases), and these were cured
(all 13 cases), then people didn't expect to be cured on all levels of
their health. So may be one of the 13 nose-bleeders had also
difficulties in hearing (40 cases), then may be he wasn't among the 28
cured, but only one of the 10 improved (that's mere speculation of
course).

The expectance of the patient is important: what does he want to be
cured? Remember Hahnemann's case of the washerwoman, (German MMP,
Vol.II, or 'Lesser writings: cases illustrative...') who received
received one drop of Bryonia-tincture for her ailments and didn't return
because she was cured and could work again. She came to the doctor to be
cured from what kept her from working - and this Hahnemann did. She
could go on with her normal life.

She didn't expect him to cure and correct all and everything, to lead
her towards an entire or ideal status of health (whatever that may be) -
rather to restore her to her previous status before her disease.

Most probably they knew their 100 or so remedies very well and could
recognise them from a mile away and inside out!!
