Dog Issue

I am a homeo grad and a student of homeopathy with dogs. I have a bitch
that has been in extreme distress for 3 days now. If someone could help me I
would be extremely appreciative.
I have a three year old PBGV (small hound) bitch. She is predominantly
white with dark patches. When born (Mar 2001) she had a lot of fluid in her lungs
and didn't breath for about 6-7 minutes. I cleared the fluid and she
developed normally but was a little slow mentally. Weight at birth was a little
under normal but she ate well and gained well.
Rather shy, didn't like new people or situations, she ran away and hid.
Always left the room at a run when a stranger appeared. Always a little on the
shaky side emotionally. Rather high strung, over reactive to noise, fears
thunderstorms, not really bold at all (used Phos 30C during thunderstorms but
it didn't help) Used one dose Sil 30C. for thunderstorm fears and this did
help. Very touch sensitive, feared grooming. Screamed when hair was removed
from ears. Feet always had a red stain as well as red/brown stain around
mouth, and both ears are stained reddish brown. Left ear is more sensitive to
cleaning and touch. Ears discharge brownish/black sticky wax. Her pupils have
always been somewhat dilated.
She had puppy vaccinations (distemper, adenovirus, parvo, and one Rabies
vaccinations. No vaccinations since 2001.
Very sweet to dogs she sees as her friends than she but barks violently at
dogs she sees as beneath her. Always very sweet to me and will warm up to
strangers if given a chance to meet them slowly and they don't make any
overtures toward her. Very apologetic dog. Very cautious.
I've used Bell 30C when I have to groom her as she gets very nervous. Gums
turn bright red and she feels hot and trembles. Bell seems to help in these
situations.
She was in estrus in June then again in October. Normal length of season,
normal discharge, but very licentious and flirting during breeding season.
After season in October she went into a pseudo pregnancy. Slight swelling
of breast tissue and slight swelling of vulva. She has been through pseudo
pregnancy before and the condition resolved without incident on 2 other
occasions. Gave one dose of Thu 30C 3 weeks ago for pseudo pregnancy. Saw an
increase in irritable behavior towards other dogs, and she became bolder when
outdoors.
It has been 8 weeks since she finished her estrus season. She began panting
and trembling 3 days ago. In a complete panic state. Pacing, restless,
panting, trembling all over, restless, moving from place to place, can't stay
still, hysterical but responds to my voice. Reminds you of a birch in labor,
panting, restless, digging in the bed. Glazed, bulging, extremely dilated
pupils; milk in the milk ducts; an enlarged vulva; panting, trembling,
restlessness, whining, crying, nesting behavior. Very red gums, tongue red, whites of
eyes are bloodshot. She is acting like a bitch in labor but she is not
pregnant. Drinking small amounts of water. Very hot but putting her outdoors
chills her.
I took her to the veterinarian last evening. The dog is running a slight
fever 102.2 degrees.
Did radiographs of body. Showed lots of small gas pockets in the
intestines. Vet palpated abdomen and dog did have pain response. Uterus normal. No
pyometra, no telescoped intestines. She is not pregnant. Nothing outstanding
showed on the radiographs. Vet prescribed Amferol for gastric distress. Ran a
CBC but results won't be back until Saturday.
This is what I've done so far:
Arnica 30C for obvious pain on Tuesday morning, no response. Symptoms as
above.
Waited 2 hours and gave one dose of Acon. 30C, no response. Symptoms as
above.
Wednesday morning gave one dose Ign. 30C as I thought perhaps she was
grieving for dog that had left on Sunday. Symptoms of trembling and panting got
much worse.
Waited 2 hours and gave Bell 30C, no response. Symptoms as above.
Waited 2 hours and gave Ars. 30C, symptoms did reduce somewhat but returned
within an hour. Made up a water solution of Ars. 30C, giving the remedy when
the symptoms returned in about an hour. Gave 5 doses over the day on
Wednesday. Symptoms palliated somewhat but returned. Took her to the veterinarian
as reported above.
Wednesday evening after returned from veterinarian's office symptoms same,
panting restless, pupils dilated, all as listed above.
Gave one dose of Bach Rescue Remedy, one dose of Bach Mimulus, and one dose
of Bach Aspen. Symptoms palliated somewhat. Still trembling but panting
reduced. Repeated Bach Flower remedies in water solution every 30 minutes
throughout the night. Gave one dose of Bell 12C to see if symptoms would respond
to different potency. No response.
Thursday morning...symptoms still evident but reduced with Bach Flower
remedies. She is still trembling but now laying in corner wanting to be alone.
Pupils still dilated, panting is less intense. Ate some broth and rice at
6:30 A.M. but refused food at 9 A.M. No thirst now.
If anyone has any suggestions I would be deeply grateful. As I wrote, I am
a student and have some experience with homeopathy and dogs but I'm over my
head with this little dog.
