I have done a net search and the one possible cause to Secondary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of the body ) is hyperthyroidism. Does anyone know anything else please?

The way you described this case seemed more like Diaphoresis to me.
Hyperhydrosis usually refers to just the hands and arms, perhaps I read your
notes wrong.

Other causes could be low blood sugar, heart problems, drugs, underlying
malignancy of some sort, emotional trauma (ongoing not just acute), chronic
fever trying to resolve.

I have now done a net search on Diaphoresis and prefer the term Secondary hyperhidrosis (Yes this does appear to be the correct spelling for it) as this refers to sweating on the body rather than Primary hyperhidrosis on the hands, axillae and feet. Diaphoresis appears to refer to a metabolic problem which I don't think IMHO he has. As I wrote previously it happens mostly when he is anxious at work, in a situation that he doesn't feel in full command of. It is not anticipatory and will suddenly appear when talking to someone. It has also happened when he was walking in the heat. It is as if once the sweating starts it goes into overdrive. Unfortunately it didn't happen when he was talking to me:-)so I couldn't observe it. He is a very fit young man who does lots of sport and amazingly it doesn't happen then. In fact he says he doesn't sweat during sport (e.g. his spinning class) like others do. It started 5 years ago. As I said I treated him constitutionally so we will see.
