I have been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder(OCD) with
depression from past 6 years.I am looking for its cure in homeopathy.

I have symptoms like clearing my throat again and again,repetition
of thoughts and actions in mind,depression, social phobia, feels lot
irritated when people spit and cough heavily repetedly while looking
at me or in my near presence and some persons living near me bang
doors a lot many times which me very angry and makes me a lot
nervous and gives me a lot of depression with lack of confidence,
insomnia.I am very superstitious even and some terrible thoughts
come to me mind without any reason which scare me and feel like i am
unlucky and have developed some bad omens in mind at coming up of
certain thoughts.

I have come to this group if anyone here has any advices to get
relief from all this problem.

Homeopathy can help in treating OCD, but treatment is relatively long and
complex. In other words, a single remedy isn't going to cure you.
Treatment also needs to be handled by a professional homeopath. I've found
it helpful in treating OCD for patients to be under concurrent care by a
good psychotherapist, because the disorder usually has its roots in
childhood problems, and "talk therapy" and homeopathy can have a nice
synergy. Often patients come to us already on allopathic meds, in which
cases we work with the prescribing psychiatrist to reduce the dosage as the
patient's anxieties recede.

A person with a pshychiatric disorder is going to find it nearly
impossible to harness enough insight into his/her condition and
objectivity to prepare his/her own case, select relevant rubrics,
and rep out to the best remedy, much less manage his/her ongoing
treatment.

While talk therapy has been hailed as a good treatment approach for
OCD, studies show that it is really not as effective as originally
believed, as, though it can impart a greater understanding to the
patient, it has little effect in reducing the severity of obsessions
or compulsions.

Cognitive behavior therapy/exposure and response prevention is the
current therapy of choice. I tend to find it suppressive by itself
as it focuses on the compulsions without addressing the obsessions
that incite them, and it's the obsessions (delusions) that relate to
the underlying issues driving the disorder. But combined with
proper homeopathic care, which not only deals with the anxiety
provoked by the therapy but also the obsessions around which the
compulsions revolve, the combination can be very effective.

The desired result is the ability to cope with life with the
understanding that one cannot control everything and that one must
learn to accept a certain amount of risk so that one's freedom is no
longer curtailed.

Because there are different forms/presentations of OCD, each
therapist tailors treatment that is specific to each case, as, of
course, would a professional homeopath.

Hello Cinnabar,
Not my experience, and I have a psychologist who refers people, so I see
some OCD's. Yes you have to monitor them for some time, but one remedy can
be indicated. And with the right remedy results can be quite quick (but
with long follow-up and judicious repetition).

I'm glad you've had success in using a single remedy in a given case. My
experience has been different. This may be due to the nature of the cases
themselves, how long the OCD has been active, and how far along the
"hierarchy of symptoms" a patient is. For example, if I saw a basic
Calcarea constitution that underwent an extreme fright, pushing it into a
Stramonium state, I'd treat first with Stramonium, then wait in expectation
that the Calcarea nature would return.

Other conditions often coexist with OCD, such as eating disorders,
trichotillomania, ADD, Tourette's, etc. I have found that many
times, depending upon the complexity of the diagnosis, more than one
remedy is required, and not necessarily in succession, but at once.
Yes, I realize that this does not constitute strict classical
homeopathy, but if I see a need for Nat-m because of an anorexic or
bulimic condition that coexists with, say, an Ars case of OCD, or a
Stram psychosis, or an Aur depression, an Anac dissociation, or a
Lach bipolar state, then each and every remedy is well indicated. A
person with a mulitple diagnosis moves in and out of different
states. A straight-forward case of OCD may in fact respond to a
single remedy, but many cases are too complex to resolve this way.

Hi Toni,

What would distinguish a "nat-m ... anorexic or bulimic condition" from an
"arsenicum anorexic or bulimic condition"? They are in similar rubrics...
If you give both at once, don't you deprive yourself of the chance to *see*
whether ars alone will take care of that eating problem? Because if it's
truly the indicated remedy, I would think it would?
