Just saw this news item: Drugs against heartburn promote pneumonia. (This is
from regular medical analysis of data).

The theory to explain this now says that the most popular heartburn drugs
(proton pump inhibitors) promote the growth of bacteria in the stomach.
These bacteria migrate (travel up and then down again) to the lungs and
cause pneumonia.
Are these bacteria smart? No. Are heartburn drug developers?
