Simon, having lost track of this discussion completely I am not sure I
should reply, however,

***No arguments there except to ask how can one prescribe at all, even get
into being truly homeopathic without the provings - anything is else is just

patient actually taking and responding to it, (hypothetical I know but it
serves to illustrate). Reasonable and secure data is what every
(competent) homeopath prescribes on, when there is cure then they
know that the remedy was 'truly homeopathic' not before.

cure, not 'hoping' it will to prove that it is homeopathic.

for my liking, I prefer the simplicity of it being the patient's reaction
to the Rx that determines its 'true homeopathicity' .

***But you can have it both ways 'peripheral perceptions' AND individual
reaction. They surely have to be mutually exclusive and that can happen only
because of the provings data. And the individuality allows for that
variability. I think you are contradicting yourself.

true homeopathicity of the remedy is dependent on the accuracy of our
understanding of the homeopathicity of the remedy to the case, there is
no guarantee that our choice will be accurate, that is, 'effectively'
(truly)
homeopathic, until it works. Some of the best prescribers' 'truly
homeopathic' prescriptions fail to cure. ergo it wasn't actually
homeopathic, despite their best efforts. ( I seem to remember Jeremy
Sherr stating at a SOH conference many years ago that if we were honest
we got no more than 50% success.)

***This is just an example of being unsuccessful (which we all share), this
has nothing to do with what we are discussing.

That was my original point vis Vitamin A, I think it was.

You said (+ gave other examples) - Imagine the scenario where a child with
a given disease opened a remedy chest and took a remedy which cured them.
Would that remedy have been truly homeopathic or not?

***No need for any more provings then.

They are not always the same.

***Provings and their sx pictures are not concepts, they are the substance
of our Materia medica, albeit with inaccuracies as you mention but not so
unreliable as you also mention. We have a lot of our research to do to get
our prescriptions as correct as possible.
