Do you find this below approach (including a small portion) acceptable?
Personally, I find it hard to follow the thread if there isn't a *little* of
the prior post attached. If one is reading a lot of posts (and perhaps on
more than one list), one won't always remember just *which* case or post is
being referred to, if nothing of the prior is attached. For that reason I
often just ignore a post that comes "orphaned", with no reference attached.
For folks who get digest form, I realize that any attachment is superfluous;
but for those of us who get individual posts, it's a nuisance trying to look
back to find the prior.
What do others think?

I agree that if there's not some remnant of the prior post it's often impossible outside of the digest form to figure out what the thread is, and therefore to make sense of the individual post. On the other hand, people could delete whole strings of previous posts, which after a while become superfluous -- finding the happy medium is a good idea here as elsewhere, I guess. Rosemary
