Combo Drugs.

Dear Doctors,
In my introductory letter (where did it go?) I had clarified that I am not a homoeopathic doctor but that I have studied a bit in the last 27 years in my search for a cure for my ills. So whatever I say in this forum will be from the point of view of a patient who has suffered psora, a bit of sycosis and yes, allopathy!
Combination drugs are not new in India. They were introduced by a Dr Paresh Bannerjee
who practised in Mihijam, West Bengal. His medicines were/are very popular and his particular brand came to be known as Mihijam Homoeopathy. The traditional homoeopaths, there were and still are a good many of them in Bengal, were livid but patients wanted a "quick cure" and cared little about how it came about.
Today we find most of the homoeopaths in India, qualified ones at that, dabbling with combo drugs. They prescribe Belladona and Merc Sol for the throat, Bryonia and Gelsemium for fevers, Rhus Tox and Arsenic for colds etc. They also follow them up with a mother tincture or two and of course Biochemic remedies. This is the standard practice here.
Now why does this come about? There could be various reasons,
1. The doctors do not do their daily readings properly.
2. They do not want to give more time to a single patient (They get paid hardly Rs 5/-
or 10/- for their consultations).
3. They don't want to take any "risk" and face the ire of their patients.
4. The patients feel more comfortable with more medicines than a single drop on their
tongue.
5. Most of them have their own pharmacies and want to make up in drug sales what
they lose by way of consultancy.
6. Combo drugs in attractive packs give a "modern" look to homoeopathic pharmacies.
Combo drugs in homoeopathy are here to stay. I wish homoeopathic knowledge could be imparted in schools the way the allopathic views are taught to students. Because the problem is not solely due to ignorant doctors but ignorant patients as well.
Regarding Calcium and Potassium I think we should listen to Schussler in this regard. Most of the modern research on minerals are mere affirmations of what he has to say. Recently at a conference when I broached the subject of Schussler advocating Calc Phos for anaemia rather than Ferrum Phos, many allopathic doctors nodded in assent. I wonder if this theory of his too has been vindicated.
