Symphytum

It is not just with Symphytum. All herbs have potency variations
based on the soil, climate when the remedies are prepared, stage of
maturation ( for flowers etc, the nature of the bloom - full bloom
or half bloom etc) and other things. In Indian medicine ( Ayurveda
etc) herbs are supposed to be plucked at least 30 miles or more away
from the sea shore. Plants near the sea water are supposed to be of
inferior quality ( Natr. mur dilutes them I guess). Even a
homeopathic physician - was it RT Cooper? - had his own way of
preparing plant dilutions that he used for treating cancer.
He used to give just 1 drop doses of Mother tintures of the
medicines he prepared himself.

Hi Rosemary,
By potency scale you mean don't use two C potency's together. They could be 1M and 6c, but they would be the same scale. 1LM and 6c would be better. Or 6x and 6c. I never heard of that, but it makes sense.
Thanks,
Ellen

Dear Mary,
Rosemary has been a very trustworthy adviser. (see below) She does a lot of cancer cases and I can always follow her logic. The symphtum that you have is at what potency. I mean is it a 6c or a 200c? What is the potency of the Murex. I recall 6c. Please get back to me with these. I will send the Calc-sulph cell salt with the necessary potencies.
Blessings,
Ellen

Hi, Ellen
I've found that if you make the potencies different enough, and you need to treat a symptom that clearly comes from an independent external cause (such as thet surgery), you can do both together, assuming the patient takes the two remedies at different times. Boericke recommends Symph in Mother Tincture, so a low X potency of it wouldr also work, and is probably on a different potency scale than any other remedies you're using. Calc-sulph would be the cell salt that might also help.
Warmly, Rosemary

Hi, Ellen -- yes, if possible, I try to separate LM, Centesimal and decimal potencies. Occasionally it's necessary to use two centesimals or two decimals, and then I'd use a very low potency of one remedy, assuming the other is at least a mid-potency (e.g. 6c with 200c).
Hope that clarifies. Assuming that you're treating a chronic, and then need something for an acute from an external source (injury, etc...), the remedies don't interfere with each other. If I'm using more than one remedy to treat an injury, say, then the potencies don't have to be that far apart (still nice if they're different) -- I just alternate them.
Occasionally I've found myself needing to treat a direly threatening cancer with one remedy, and then, after that threat recedes a bit and we're in transition mode, continuing that remedy and needing to give a more chronic remedy as well as the disease picture broadens out from the previously one-sided focus on the tumor. This is another situation in which alternation of remedies from different potency scales has worked well.
These are all adaptations of the "intercurrent" remedy idea.
Warmly, Rosemary
