Homeopathic Symphytum wasn't outlawed (in U.S. anyway) was it. Just
checked Hahnemann Labs and its still there. My understanding is that in
macrodosage, i.e., as herbal tea, it was found to be carcinogenic.

What I find amusing is that we use the term quackbusters as a
pejorative; what
are we, pro-quack?!
In the US we have to check state-by-state to determine what can or
can't be done with nosodes.
Opium and Cannabis are an exception. Authorities are afraid any
approval will be used to kick the legal door for recreational drugs (to them that's
the end of the world). Puts us in an awkward position also: If we make a big
deal of the fact that after Avogadro there's no material dosage in the remedy
the quackers will publicize that as an admission that it can't possibly work.
If we segue into the "memory of " or energy plane, we're airheads who
violate the second law of thermodynamics. No win.

The whole herb is banned in Australia.
It doesn't cause cancer - it causes veno-occlusive disease - but only in
massive overdoses.
Its banning was another bureaucratic joke - as comfrey leaves are used as a
salad vegetable in Japan - the world's longest-lived people.
