In a recent posting on combinations, "hahnemannian2002" wrote "Surely Homeo medicines in combo are not more harmful than antibiotics". I was taught that homeopathic medicines in combination or single dose incorrectly given are more harmful than antibiotics as homeopathic suppression is much harder to undo. I have been told to send patients to allopathic doctors for antibiotics if the homeopathic picture isn't clear, or in cases such as prolonged dental treatment where I would want to give a homeopathically appropriate remedy. In the latter case I was told that by giving Arnica/Bellis etc. repeatedly, I may be creating an artificial state of the remedy in the patient and therefore support during dental treatment should be left to allopathic drugs.

Any comments on this?

Incorrect selection does not mean suppression immediately. Patients
do not live in a vacuum and it is not as if the only thing that they
are getting is THE SIMILIMUM. I would say 80% of all prescriptions
are incorrect. We should not assume that we homeopaths are all
powerful and the "body" poetic is idiotic. If our bodies can
process and get rid of so many pollutants in the air / water etc.
then the wrongly chosen remedy would not harm it if you do not keep
on repeating the remedy. But keeping on pegging the wrong remedy
praying that the next dose is going to create the Miracle then this
is another problem altogether, You can spoil a case by repeating so
many times even if it were the similimum.
I am not against judicious antibiotics - but not because I think
homeo medicines can do more harm than antibiotics.

If a person is not sensitive to a remedy you cannot prove the remedy-
right. This is like "not all family members get the same infection
even while living under the same roof". You have to be sensitive to
prove and produce symptoms of a remedy. In the same way if you are
not sensitive you are not going to respond to the wrongly given
medicine. At the same time if you keep on repeating it then you can
create an artificial disease. But at the same time even if it were
the wrong medicine and it is not repeated many times and the patient
is sensitive and reacts to it then usually you get the symptom
picture clarified and the current modified symptoms point to the
correct remedy.

Do you think mother tinctures are still homeopathic remedies or not?
People ingest so many things - which probably are already in MT
range and they should be suppressing like crazy.

There are so many holy cows in Homeopathy ( and many more cow boys
and girls) and this is probably one of that herd.

Whoever told you this either had a specific situation in mind, or has been
very, very steeped in "fear-based" teaching which would be awfully hard to
support from experience! Below:

Homeopathic suppression can be a mess to undo. It is also (in most
instances) not that easy to *do*. If you follow appropriate guidelines
(i.e. treat only self-limiting conditions unless you have appropriate

That could indeed happen, if you were giving the remedy too frequently
during times when it was not needed. (You'd know if it's not needed,
because it won't be helping!) But usually arnica etc. would be given only
during the few days (or less) direction after the dental work, and this
would happen only... once a month for a few months, or ??? In that case
there should be no problem at all. But, could you describe the specific
situation you had in mind?

homoeopath knows how to use dynamic remedies to correct the situation.
Although one should respect the power of potentized remedies such myths
about "giving the wrong remedy" and "worse than antibiotics" are counter
productive.

Using the correct remedies in a long term dental treatment is ok if
they are called for by active symptoms, etc.. If it is not called for by
active symptoms there is no reason to give remedies. If you give such
remedies for no reason for a long period it might produce symptoms. It is
not the nature of the situation that is the problem. It is a lack of
understanding how to manage such cases. Here in India we have to constantly
treat the most virulent acute miasms and serious acute disorders. We have a
lot of experience in this field. Some people in the West have the strangest
ideas about treating acute diseases and crisis.

To think that antibiotics are somehow inherently safer than remedies
is a myth. That is simply not true. Most of the problems in homoeopathy
come from using too many dry pills in too high of potency or giving the
remedy too many times when NOT needed. Follow Hahnemann advice to give one
tiny small pill or use a medicinal solution in at least 7 tablespoons and
starting with the lowest degrees of potency possible prevents most
complications.

Check David's posting on Hahnemann's embracing of other healing methods and
let's go for the doctor! (an expression meaning go all out and all the way
and whack it with everything we've got - in the gentlest possible, eclectic
way).
