a query for the group - Not an MD

Dear Meg,
I am a second year student with the Toronto School of Homeopathic Med and have been studying with a non-MD homeopath of 20 year for 2 years. I am not an MD.
I have been taught by my local teacher and personally feel that homeopathy is political as well as medical work. Staying low and offering both a material and a spiritual practice is advised. Because we don't pay an MD's big insurance fees and because we can actually heal without harm, we offer a service that threatens some MD's. Don't get in your previously supportive homeopath's face. Realize his weaknesses. There is such a crying need for homeopathy that no honest and aware medical professional would undermine a fully educated homeopath starting a professional practice. Not every MD shares his opinion. Look at brave MD's like David Little, Dr. Rozenszjg. They are putting their entire practice in alternative medicine. I wonder if they feel a need to pay those crazy insurance fees? They are openly teaching. They are our models.
Blessings,
Ellen Madono

Thanks for the kudos...........but there is one difference, I live in New Zealand, David practices in India.
In both those countries, homeopathy and other non-conventional practices are accepted without problems.
My insurance premium are very low because the insurances companies do consider us very low risk, and we have a serious group discount through the Charter of Natural Practitioners.
I am also very careful to keep a polite collegial and ethical relationship with GPs even though I am sometimes (OK, often...) kind of "in your face, buddy" with them, but then they take it well.......this is because of the local philosophy where the patient is the center of attention, not the practitioner or the type of practice.
I was very surprised recently when 2 of my patients who receive state support as they cannot work anymore had 50% of my bills paid by our equivalent of social security (WINZ) after they asked if it was possible. The only thing I had to do was to write a letter to WINZ..........
In the USA, as far as I understand, you live in a witch hunt situation so keeping a low profile and catering to the ego of the conventional world is the key to survival. OTOH, once you become known in your community and have struck a good relationship with GPs, there should be no problems.

Dear Ellen,
I am practicing homeopathy on full time basis 6 days a week since 1997
besides teaching Homeopathy in Canadian College of Holistic Health, Toronto,
Canada since 1999. Knowing that Homeopathy is not regulated, I am paying
Medical Malpractice Insurance, C.G.L. etc.and also have City of Toronto
License for Holistic Practitioners where I am one of the only few
Homeopathic Doctors listed with them.
The thing is that when you graduate from your College you should have full
confidence in doing Homeopathic Practice as most of the students get
discouraged by a poor response of patients or their lack of follow up with
them. The other thing is that Homeopathic Associations are not united in
Canada. Once they get united I do not see any difficulty in re-regulating
Homeopathy here. I have not shed my efforts to get Homeopathy re-regulated
and desire cooperation from all the Homeopathic practitioners to do the
same.
Sincerely,

Your assessment of the US situation is smack-on, and oboy I want to move to
New Zealand! :-/
One promising thing here in the US is that interest in "alternative" care,
including homeopathy, is increasing *even* among MDs. And most are truly
interested in helping patients, so if you can show them some promising
results... (Research is not apt to convince, but seeing the results is!)
