Hyperparathyroid

Has anyone here had or heard of hyperparathyroid brought back to normal
(verified thru clinical tests) -- whether thru homeopathy and/or any other
method besides surgery? (I'll have further questions if I get any "yes"
responses!)

Thanks!
Shannon

Have had 2 cases - one I had to refer in the end due to excessive
commitments and the other is ongoing. Both very interesting cases.

Ask away :-)

Best wishes, Joy

Great, thankyou!
First (and I'll have more questions later) can you say what sort of response
you saw in the lab results -- where the PTH and calcium values were
initially, where they wound up, and how long that took?

Thankyou!!

Not specifically. However, I can take the wholistic view and safely say that
I can give it a good shot by taking a squiz at the case.

The referred case had begun to respond very well (had previously had
surgery) but I have passed all the lab notes on and the ongoing case, a very
complicated one, will not even entertain the idea of using a specialist or
hospitals for tests and the like but her energy has been restored, the
anxiety virtually gone, hair growth is now good and weight gain all suggest
a wonderful healing process. This case is well into its second year but some
time has been wasted en route.

Best wishes, Joy

Ah, she had the surgery already.
Were those parathyroid-related symptoms that the surgery didn't help, or
things that were caused/exacerbated by it, or ??

:-)))
You would be in good company!
Maybe I'll try again later to put up some more of the case.
Thanks,
Shannon

Dear Shannon, I have combined your 2 posts.

The referred case had surgery, the second case (the ongoing one) did not.
The surgery certainly made the referred case much worse after a very short
period of time (she had been promised that it would improve!!).

Apparently Vitamin D deficiency is the next big looming disease according to
a news article I watched just a few days ago.

Vit D is needed to promote absorption of calcium and phosphate from the
small intestine as well releasing calcium from the bone.

It is considered to be the most toxic of all the vitamins I believe = loss
of appetite, nausea, vomiting, constant thirst, headaches, depression,
irritability (both my clients were extremely anxious in their nature) and
because calcium is deposited in any susceptible area/organ/tissue then
tumours and growths become apparent.

A deficiency can cause muscle spasms which is what made me say that the
cramps might be due to an early lack of the Vitamin D and thus it was when
she took the Vit D that the cramps subsided - if I understand you correctly.

When any disease is progressing we, as Homeopaths, know that individual
susceptibility will create an individual symptom picture. On top of all the
'normal' sx that should appear in any given named disease there are always
the individual ones as well, and sometimes there is no logic to it, i.e.
'small amounts of calcium versus large amounts, doing whatever they do' but
they are symptomatic of a body/mind whose organs are not functioning as they
should and all sorts of strange things happen.

I agree you should get to know as much as possible about the 'science' of
this condition but you don't need me to tell you that the case should be
taken as it is for this individual.

I know we have discussed this case before but please continue to ask any
questions you want.

Hope useful, best wishes, Joy

Oops, I hope I didn't say that her cramps subsided when she took Vitamin D
-- that had no effect whatever on them, tho she has been taking Vitamin D
for many years and her blood levels of that are normal. But when she takes
2,000 mg daily of *calcium* she has no cramps, altho small amounts aggravate
the cramps. I am trying to understand that part...

Another question -- do I need to be familiar with anything about
hyperparathyroidism in order to choose my characterizing symptoms? I
realize there are sort of "two schools of thought" re casetaking, with some
folks saying you can forget diagnosis, just go with the symptom picture; and
others saying that symptoms which are common to the disease are not so
useful for prescribing. And others saying that symptoms "of the disease"
are the only ones we should prescribe on at all, sigh... I would try that
approach if I could recognize a characterizing picture within the disease
symptoms (aka basis for choosing a remedy!).

A specific example: One of her presently huge symptoms is a sort of
obsessiveness about certain things (and there are other ars-like aspects
too, but ars does not seem to have helped so far) -- she subscribes to (gag)
about 20 health newsletters, and also gets *enormous* quantities of
advertising and catalogues, such that (according to her) a huge proportion
of her time goes to dealing with it (sorting, bagging, and reading some of
the advertising and catalogs). She does not have time to actually *read*
much of it (to the point that social calls have become a harrassment,
instead of the pleasure she used to take in them), so we've begged her to
unsubscribe from most of the newsletters and request to be taken off most of
the mailing lists, but she flatly, adamantly and sometimes furiously
refuses. I'm being told (or at least it's being suggested/implied?) that
this could be part of the hyparparathyroid/ hyhpercalcemia symptom picture,
tho I haven't read this anywhere. Do you know? Have either of your
patients had any similar symptoms?

She is also I would say full of "fixed ideas".

She has extreme scoliosis -- but since this is (at least mostly?) from the
spinal effects of the osteoporosis, maybe this isn't a prescribing symptom
either?

Thankyou!
