Gratiola officinalis
********************

Gratiola officinalis is a plant remedy. The plant,
Hedge Hyssop, belongs to the natural order of
Scrophulariaceae.

Gratiola is famous for its marvellous effect on
Gastro-intestinal system and its indication in esp
types of gastroenteritis. Here we are going to study
its prominent mental featurs.

The prominent mental themes are Haughtiness and
Nymphomania. The combination of these two themes
reminds us of Platina which is actually one of the
remedies compared to Gratiola regarding its mental
symptoms.

Gratiola's haughtiness is actually a compensatory
reaction to the humiliation caused by pride of others;
'...where daughter-in-law has to tolerate
mother-in-law, where emloyee has to tolerate
employer....' (Vermeulen) This humiliation has a
profounf effect on Gratiola's mind.

MIND - AILMENTS FROM - pride of others
MIND - HAUGHTY
MIND - HAUGHTY - women

In Gratiola's delusions you clearly see this result of
humiliation.

MIND - DELUSIONS - head - diminished
MIND - DELUSIONS - skull - diminished
MIND - DELUSIONS - small - body is smaller
MIND - DELUSIONS - small - he is

This is opposite Platina. Although the external
behavior may be the same but Platina usually has the
delusions of enlargement.

Like Gratiola's poisoning, there are symptoms of
increased sexual desire and nymphomania in women. Some
of the patients suffering from chronic effects of
Gratiola poisoning became permanently nymphomaniac.

Gratiola is one the important remedies indicated in
excessive sexual desire driving to masturbation; esp
in girls and women.

In chronic cases, a deep sadness may develop which may
lead to suicidal disposition.

MIND - SADNESS
MIND - SUICIDAL disposition

And now let's review the main GI symptoms of Gratiola
in a short paragraph from Samuel Lilienthal!

'Watery, green and frothy evacuations, gushing out
with force, resulting from drinking excessive
quantities of water, preceded by rumbling and cutting
in the abdomen, and nausea; the pain is not relieved
by the stool, but by escape of flatus; appetite for
nothing but bread. Cold feeling in abdomen.'
