Dear members of the list.

I have been carrying some sociological and anthropological research over the
approaches that many MD doctors that claim to be homeopaths practice in my
country. It seems that the situation is similar in many other countries.
Doctors become homeopaths, aryurrvedic doctors, and specialist in Chinese
Medicine, Zen medicine, shamanistic medicine, etc. Some people practice a
great variety of approaches simultaneously and they tell theirs patients
that they are experts in every field of the different approaches of
alternative medicine they practice. Meanwhile, some countries have a long
tradition of a practice of what I call a "popular homeopathy". Persons
without a medical training, all over the world have practiced homeopathy
with very interesting results. The history of homeopathy has shown the
practice of homeopathy by people that are very honest, but that don't count
with the medical training. Any way they have the knowledge and the
experience. I'm not worried of them. In the history of homeopathy these
persons have been very important in the survival of homeopathy. In the last
20 years or more, the trained medical doctors - some of them- are again
turning towards homeopathy. Homeopathy in a way is again being recognized.
We must take into account that these process is not happing in the big and
prestigious faculties of medicine at the dominant university system. Only a
relative small percentage of MD are actually recognizing homeopathy as a
true alternative for their specialization. Homeopathy is seen as a
specialist field only suitable for MD doctors. Some of these "conversos",
start to practice homeopathy - I don't mean all- but I think in a
significant percentage - in a very heterodox manner .In many occasions they
combine allopathic prescription with a very heterodox practice. In their
private consultancy, mostly they prescribe remedies - complex remedies- that
are generating an additional cost to the patient, and as it is known has
nothing to do with unicist homeopathy. The drainage remedy becomes the final
goal; it's no longer the media as Vannier saw it, but the main purpose of
the therapy. These are some of my impressions. I'll like to share it with
the group. In a sincere way I'm worried about my condition. I first studied
anthropology, I love it. Seven years ago I start it to study and practice
homeopathy. Homeopathy is my real passion. Thanks to my orthodox and
unicist training I have obtain amazing cures. Thanks to homeopathy many
persons have improve their life quality. The dominant view of the world and
the persons living by it, resist to accept that a persons, like me, without
a formal medical formation at a Faculty of Medicine is obtaining what
supposedly only train MD could achieve.

Thank you for the text. I will try to answer because you touched some
interesting points and very actual ones. Things go as follows :
1.Homeopathy "came back" in the last 30 years due to several reasons but in
the first place due to the enormous costs of allopathy. This is the reason why
homeopathy kept on going in "poor" countries like India or Mexico or whatever,
while in the "First World", homeopaths were still seen as something exotic,
not worth wasting your time with. In Germany, where allopathic medicine is
exorbitant expensive and quite inefficient compared to the amount of money poured
in, even health secretaries of state promoted homeopathy - because of its low
costs. So this is the economic factor, homeopathy being much, much cheaper and
offering quite good results compared to the investment, so being efficient.
As always, money comes first. Health is costless or no economy should be made
to achieve it but ... it has a budget.
2.The second point is the growing amount of adverse effects of allopathic
medicine and the aggressivity of allopathic modern medicine, both actually missed
in homeopathy, if good praticing is offered.
3.the third point is that, while being so far away, modern allopathy still
has borders and there still are many diseases that can not be treated adequately
or with too much effort but in which cases alternatives, like homeopathy
and/or chinese medicine, may very well step in. Many examples possible here - most
ubiquitous of them all - headache.
4. The lay practitioner will never be able to reach a learned doctor, because
medicine as a whole is a matter of context, very similar to police work. So
experience and the whole "build up" of knowledge from the very beginning, like
bulding a house, is what counts, things have to be seen 3D if you want, not
1D, something not possible but if one has studied profoundly, for years. We say
here, that a learned doctor, already a finished allopathic physician, needs at
least 5years of intense study, to get a acceptable level of knowledge on
classical homeopathy and in these 5 years he has to keep going on a almost
day-to-day bases in homeopathy, not in allopathy alone. Despite this, experience and
the number of patients as such, of cases, is additional crucial in every kind
of medicine one practices. This can never be reached by a lay practitioner.
It is as if you step into the plane and ask the pilot to explain you how to
fly the plane and then you go ahead flying it. Would you make such a flight ? I
won't, definitely. I would sit down and let the pilot do the job he learned
to do. Even so, you may go down ... otherwise you will go down for sure. It is
the difference between professional and amateur.
5. the mixing of allopathic and homeopathic prescriptions is nonsense of
course, although, in theory, possible.
6. a widely made mistake, even in this forum unfortunately, is that
homeopathy is overrated and unduly used, because this "total" knowledge, the big frame,
is not available. Having this, one has to study. These medicines like
homeopathy and chinese medicine up to a point, are and will remain almost for sure,
alternatives.
