Materia Media the following list, which a useful guideline on how long
certain remedies may act.

Taking the potency into account might be helpful, the higher the potency
the longer acting it is.
I had a cases in which the Lyc. C 200 was acting for about half a year,
another in which Calc-carb.C 200 was acting for over one year. It
depends on the patient's sesitivity and the nature of the disorder. In
general, constitutionals have a longer duration of action, and
naturally, remdies for acute diseasees have a shorter duration of action.
In an acute case of diphtheria Lachesis C 200 was acting for only two
days, followed by Merc-cyan. C 30 acting for 8 days, and finishing off
all the troubles, apart from a persistant symptom described best by J.T.
Kent in his /Lectures on Homeopathic MM/: "Scraping and rawness in the
larynx. Scraping mucus from the larynx, scraping and coughing. It is not
a hawk, because that noise clears the throat." This was cured by Bromium
C 200 that helped instantly and the symptom has not reappeared since.
In the end, knowledge, intuition and experience help to decide whether
the given dosis of a remedy is still acting and when the time for the
next dosis or a new remedy has come.
