Dear Joy

On a fairly regular basis on this site we get a request for recommendations
for a homoeopath in a certain locality.

When most homoeopaths have an advert in their local Yellow Pages, why should
people be seeking that reassurance from members of this list?

If one of your dearest were to become ill in a distant place, where you
could not attend to them yourself, would you be happy to rely on the yellow
pages for your choice of the homoeopath? Especially when we know some have
never ever read the whole of the Organon and may be combo prescribers!

Would you be happy for them to receive one combo after another?

those who are not from that camp ('classical' or Hahnemannian homeopathy) to
leave this list then how many members would there be I wonder."
My understanding was and remains (unless Dr Shahrdar advises to the
contrary) that this site is dedicated to Hahnemannian Homoeopathy. I feel
that, that method of practise should be respected on site. If some do not
like it, then they are free to go elsewhere or form their own list.

Looking at Sheri's first reaction, I think she became exasperated that a
list of remedies were given to a patient in an obviously vulnerable state -
the risk being that the patient may self-prescribe. Can you tell us what
you are actually objecting to exactly? Is it the word "jeeshhhhhh"? (An
expression of shock for an unexpected behaviour ??) as I cannot find
anything else that may be regarded as offensive in her first post.

Also I have my own suspicions about the original enquirer. Zubair Raza's
email is destructor316@yahoo.com. [NOTE: DESTRUCTOR]
He has not come back to the list nor has he responded to any of the mails I
have sent him.

In any case, faced by similar questions as posed by Zubair, we on this site
should not be in the business of offering any advice other than seek
treatment by a good homoeopath and giving encouragement that records show
that such problems have been resolved by the use homoeopathy. This advice
should be as general and as non-specific as possible.

We have done the advertising discussion before - let people make their own
decisions when approaching a homeopath, they need to ask relevant questions
and use their instincts on whether to go forward with any particular
homeopath. The Society of Homeopaths (UK) now encourage yellow pages adverts
with their own logo - and this is no guarantee either but what point are you
making. what is wrong with recommendation. Are you asking that people do not
make these requests on the list. If so you need to put this to the list
owner.

If Dr Shahrdar wants this list to remain purely 'classical' and
'hahnemannian' and he wants all other topics to be banned then we await this
announcement. The classical approach is already well respected by many of us
on this list.

I have already said I objected to rudeness on this list - not what is said
but how it is said. And as for self prescribing there are many who encourage
people to do this at a very early stage of their learning. I have said
before how much I am against this.

And now you have passed judgement on the original post just because of his
email address. We live in a world of weird and wonderful expressions and
others have had respectful emails from this person. Perhaps he just doesn't
care to reply to you. Do you approach your clients in this way - if you get
suspicious of them you cannot go forward with them?

Your last statement I agree with entirely and that this should be done
respectfully and without rudeness.

No on the contrary - What it indicates is what you and I know well, that the
Yellow Pages (and the adverts from whichever society or organisation of
Homoeopaths) cannot be trusted because they have diluted their requirement
for evaluating homoeopaths and now to a degree operating on the lowest
common denominator! Also that people are seeking the assurance of a
colleague from this list. What does that say for the Society of Homoeopaths
etc.?

I did not say that this site was PURELY Classical / Hahnemannian - Of course
it should consider and discuss other approaches - but in essence it should
be Classical / Hahnemannian. I agree with you that to a good degree the
members respect this view. So long as this view is promoted/defended
appropriately and politely, I have no problem.
Your post also implied that a huge number of people on this list were not
Classical / Hahnemannian. If that is the case, what are they doing on this
list?

I had not passed any judgements on Zubair - I merely expressed my suspicions
about his communications in case there was an ulterior motive.
I did respond to him with my recommendations. Note that one of the points I
raised was that he never came back to the list!
Now that he has contacted others I can perhaps rest easy.

What made you think that I had passed judgement on him?
