Re: Good News - member list recovered

Post by Peter Walker »

I am just about to release a message to all the members explaining the move as part of the invitation. That message will reach more people as it will be sent from this group. Posting messages to the old group will only reach people with individual messages set. Those with no email, special announcements or daily digest will not see anything.

Let me give you some numbers to ponder:
No email = 1339 members
Daily Digest = 774
Individual Emails = 1264

That means, a message to the old group will now only reach 1264 members out of 3377 which is 37%
My message will be sent to 100% (minus those few of us that are already members and those with bouncing emails). The new members can read what we are writing here online. I would do a direct add if it were possible, but it is technically not available.

Hennie

Against your point is the fact that many people are silent lurkers who
like to read but not comment.

Why would you want to exclude them from the learning that goes on.

And since people still get posts from Yahoo, please send all your
comments to both the old and new groups

I don't understand the unwillingness to do such little steps that would
encourage more people to remain connected.

That is fine Peter but I still think we should do the most possible to connect with the old membership.

Hennie, I agree, and also with Peter’s observation, that people who are added, rather than asking to be added, will sometimes complain. Better to give people a choice—and as we’ve all seen, accepting an invite is easy!

I’m cc’ing the group at Yahoo, let’s try to keep doing that for a while.

Hi Tanya,

Peter is helping us! I think we can handle doing the cc’ing ourselves. :-)
At some point it becomes up to the others, whether they come aboard or not.
For e.g., remember someone had expressed an unwillingness to be part of Io, so why not leave them that choice?

Tanya,

The silent lurkers are also free to accept the invitation they will get. Why on earth would you object to letting someone choose whether or not to accept an invitation? There’s no rocket science involved.

Shannon

I do not object to that process.

I just think it is limited and needs to be expanded a bit.

People have a variety of habits about using the internet, getting emails, etc

and I think we should include all possibilities. This move is going to take a big

hit for Minutus
