I have a patient who I last gave her Hepar 200-one dose as a constitutional Rx 7 weeks ago - she didn't need a repeat when she saw me last. She has just phoned me to say she has been abroad for 2 weeks and for the whole time she has had a sore on the back of her leg which she presumes is from an ingrowing hair which is infected and discharging yellow pus and won't heal. She thought sea water abroad would help it heal but it didn't. Now one of the reasons she was given Hepar was because every scratch suppurates and after her first dose she could not believe that scratches were healing immediately without suppuration.
I can't see her until Thursday and if I sent her something it wouldn't arrive until then so she is coming to see me then. I have a couple of ideas and would like to know what others think would be best. She says that other than that she is fine.
1) Repeat the Hepar 200
2) Give Hepar 6 as it is a physical
3) Give Silica 6 to bring out the ingrowing hair - if that is the problem (she probably had her legs waxed before her holiday.
4) Give Gunpowder low
4) Just give her some Calendula and Echinacea mix in MT to use externally.

Dear Rochelle

It seems to me to be a part of the Rx's curative action that she has
developed such a pustule lower down the body on an extremity. Therefore, I'd
be inclined to act conservatively.
From the options you have offered I'd go with the Calendula/Echinacea mix to
soothe and keep infection at bay but I'd add a few drops of castor oil which
will assist in "drawing" the contents of the wound.
I'd also have a look at her diet and see that she's getting plenty of zinc.

The "waiting game" is hard to do especially when patients want us to take
away their symptoms. If she's "demanding", I'd add sac lac to the regieme.

This women probably is NOT Hepar sulfuris constitutionally, which usually is
a male remedy and has many other, very important, features, not mentioned
above.

I beg to differ!!! I did not give the woman Hepar just because of the suppuration!!!!!!!!!! There were many other keynotes. I also feel that remedies not sex orientated these days . Sepia has done wonderful things to many men I have prescribed it for as has Pulsatilla and woman have done well on Nux Vom and Lycopodium!!!!

Well, yes, they are not strictly gender-oriented, but there are certain
probabilities which just have to be taken into account. You forgot to mention
Lachesis muta in this context.
Hepar sulphuris is in the first place very violent and extremely impulsive,
as violent and impulsive as Stramonium and close to Nux vomica and Hyosciamus.
Sulphur, which also may explode, is, by difference, not malignant (like
Belladonna) and by far not that violent, that eruptive. I also miss the gelosy and
arson thing especially after drinking.
Personally I never met a women THAT impulsive ... and I did met a hell of lot!
So this was the reason I got suspicious in the first place.
Like Stramonium and Capsicum annum, Hepar sulphuris gives many police
officers - no offence on this!
Than, this suppuration thing is obvious in Hepar sulphuris but it usually is
wide spread - like pyogenic acnee on the whole back for ex, or things of this
dimension. So go ahead with the case - I am convinced about fifty-fity, all
right?
Now to the gender stuff: well, Sepia officinalis has its main problem in
sexuality and is actually the remedy for every women who has to much male hormones
compared to normal (every woman has a bit of male and every man a bit of
female hormones, which I suppose is well known). There was a discussion here on
Sepia but in the time of my temporary absence and I did not follow that precise
- please take this into account. Sepia is a beautiful remedy by all means and
very frequent. It might also fit in this sterility-discussion, also propagated
in this forum.
So, Sepia always gets worse when given a certain antibaby pill by her
gynecologist, because Sepia, like Lachesis, is, among other features, a retention
remedy, meaning that when the retention disappeares and it starts flowing
(menstrual bleeding for ex.) everything gets better. This is common for Lachesis and
Sepia who have very few in common actually.
Taking this pill usually prescribed after a hormonal laboratory investigation
(at least by serious gynecologists which are seldom unfortunately, at least
here), the menstrual flow gets regulated but the women feels worse as a whole.
So, reading this, it must be asked how come that Sepia can be given to
certain (even male) children with Enuresis nocturna, for ex. or even sometimes to
some men, which is correct?
The same with Lachesis or Pulsatilla. However, in - say - 95% of the cases,
these remedies are gender-related and more or less specific.
In my experience, only Na- and Ca-salts are not gender related and fairly
distributed on a rate of about fifty-fifty.
This Sepia thing confirms actually the story about constitution changing and
evolving of constitution compared to the nonsense still propagated especially
by some southamericans, the old "one man=one remedy".
It could be that Douglas Borland, a distinguished scot homeopath, was among
the first to notice this crucial feature.
