Hi there Dear Jean....sorry about the long 'pause'....it's been one helluva
past 12mths...+ this Year of the Monkey is playing havoc with my life!!! I'm
emailing you in the hope that you may have some suggestions about my dog -
Bijou, a 13 yo Labradoodle....His blood results last year, when he was going
into Vets to get teeth cleaned and ears looked at...showed results of renal
failure...not at all what we were expecting....nevertheless....we addressed
this with diet....however.....he's had a 'crisis' recently...was on a drip
for 4 days....blood result was then a bit better, but then....Bijou wasn't
able to sustain the positive changes...His urea is high, creatinine
also....off the scale...his potassium is low....phosphates high.....also,
non-regenerative anaemia....
Bijo2.
The food he got excited about:
when he was in hospital on the drip was omelette..it was still a bit
warm...
when I got him home..omelette was still approved of for a couple of times
then went off it....
he was interested in chicken wings...liked them better when they were warmed
under water...vomited next morning...
also welcomed some fresh veal...(although not supposed to have it - allergy
to beef and wheat products)..
was interested in lamb rib bones...although not when cold..vomited them next
day...
I made him a almond citrus torte...has 6 eggs in it...I gave him 2 small
thin slices while it was warm...& he willingly took it...didn't want anymore
after that...even if I warmed it in micro wave......when I bought a bbq
chicken he really enjoyed that...warm....the lean bits...not skin...
since leaving Adelaide and leaving him in the care of my sister
etc...they've tried different things....bacon...he liked...lamb steak - ate
3 bits of that....I don't know how it was prepared...but vomited the next
day...
for the last 2-3 days he's been interested in the lamb...sister staggered
the eating of it...
today apparently gave him a vienna sausage...ate that...& some cake...ate
that...they syringed into him a beaten raw egg....
(b) He's a Labradoodle - charcoal/black....cross between standard poodle
and labrador...more poodle in some ways....in looks, intelligence,
playfullness, witty, certainly affectionate...he's a diplomat...smoothes the
waters between Mum's 13 yo grumpy rotti (Ci Ci) next door and his 7yo semi
insecure, boisterous son (KoKo)
Sigh...how's that Jean?
u's regime is: 6mls of mylanta 3xday....to bind the phosphates, create a
lining against the urea and help him from vomiting....He is now drinking on
his own....not very interested in food....some foods he got a bit excited
about...but then either went off them or vomited....on & off....
I've included rescue remedy drops, 0.5 tab of mulit-vitamin, potassium,
magnesium, drops of calcium carbonate....I think the potassium was a turning
point in getting him to drink by himself...I could be wrong....He's weeing,
pooing...he's very slow...he's interested in walks...but gets tired....likes
car rides....
Vet's suspect that with his blood readings, he's likely to have 10-20% of
his kidney function. Any suggestions...how I can maintain some quality of
life for him......Animal hosp gave him a chance....I helped him have a
chance....he picked up....but I'd like to do more....if we could get the
nausea out of the way...help him to eat a little...he's losing weight...he
was 22.4kg when he was in hospital a week ago in Adelaide...he's diminishing
dear soul...
I welcome your thoughts and suggestions...Love & Peace....xxxxx
xxxx says hello.....he loves Bijou...has history with him in Pt Augusta and
Adelaide...
