Saroush, I believe we do best by observing the consequences rather than
imposing our prejudices of the use of mind altering substances which is
inclusive of every food and beverage. Some individuals utilise cannabis
to achieve a state of normal intellectual capacity and don't experience
the space/time distortion to which you allude. There are bio-chemical
reasons for addiction that have a basis in genetics; exterior factors
and internal factors driven by the mental terrain. The individual with
a state of disharmony will manifest it in some manner..alc, drugs, or
other foods simply serve as a mechanism. One might just as easily say
that it all began with that first chocolate bar, or pastry, or soda pop,
or mental or physical abuse....whatever drives an appetite I see our
role as physicians is to empower the pt. to make what they define as
healthy choices rather than impose our views.
