No, the GP did not say anything about long-term effects of Fosamax. But he
really made a point that he has a lot of concerns prescribing it.
I believe that there was an article in the New England Journal of Medicine
of September25th 2003 which talks about "Two Studies Show Combination
Therapy for Osteoporosis disappointing". The copy of the article I have
talks about a study with combined treatment of parathyroid hormone (PTH) and
alendronate (Fosamax). Though the article speaks more of disappointment in
results, rather than long-term effects.
