Did You Know...............................
That the remedy Rhus Glabra is one of the most effective remedies for
the treatment of Halitosis.
A low potency is favourable and used as a prescription for poor oral
hygiene related Halitosis. If the Halitosis originates from the lung
area then it is also useful to give Lobelia Inflata and other associated
remedies.

I DO like this "DID YOU KNOW" therapeutics thread you have started Atiq!
How about others on the list sharing such wonderful little nuggets? Let's
please all remember what a great helper our dog-eared therapeutics files
are! :-))
And since we're talking about "RHUS" did you know that...
Rhus Venenata has eczema with marked itching ameliorated by SCALDING water?
Useful keynote when normal Rhus doesn't seem to work despite being well
indicated. Rhus Ven is also a big rx for scleroderma.

I also enjoy these tips!
But I have to wonder -- in treating "halitosis from poor oral hygiene",
wouldn't it be better to correct the "poor oral hygiene"? By taking a
remedy to remove the "embarrassment", isn't one just paving the way to tooth
decay, gum disease, and heart trouble? Maybe I misunderstood...

Misunderstood.............

Poor Oral Hygiene will cause the problem of Halitosis.

Treat Halitosis, but of course improve oral care.

What you will find however is that even after improving oral care the
Halitosis can sometimes remain, where Rhus will work as a TWO PRONGED
approach, i.e. improve health of the mouth by normal means and by
homeopathic help.

999 A case of SCLERODERMA by a multi-talented practitioner:
A Case Of Scleroderma - Author: Paltis, Jacqueline L.
Susan M first came to see me on June 1, 1995. She had been referred by her
fraternal twin sister, Jane. [I had treated Jane for depression and a
"chronic fatigue" constellation of symptoms several years ago, after the
cancer death of her husband.]

CHIEF COMPLAINT. Susan is 47 years old, Caucasian, relatively thin, dark
and of medium height. Her posture is somewhat slumped, shoulders down and
forward, as if carrying a heavy weight [Sil]. She has been diagnosed with
diffusescleroderma. The symptoms first began when she was about 37 years
old (1985). She was suffering with diffuse joint and muscle pain, in the
morning with stiffness. Specific areas of pain included the shoulders,
sacroiliac area, crests of the hips, fronts of the thighs and feet. The
pain was constant but upset stomach.

TEMPERATURE: Chilly. Likes to be warm, near the ocean. Loves the sun, "but
the sun doesn't like her" -- gets a rash (this may be from the Prednisone).

My approach to treatment includes homeopathy, Total Body Modification
chiropractic technique, nutrition, etc.

6/12/95

For the first two weeks, we began with clearing techniques, reestablishing
blood sugar control through chiropractic and diet, hydrating her body,
controlling blood pressure, and instituting physiological rest to move the
body out of "fight or flight" into parasympathetic function. TBM testing
identified the presence of a liver fluke, which was treated with a heavy
concentration of herbs (including, wormwood, black walnut hulls, and
cloves). Nutrition: AC Carbamide Powder and Renatrophin (Standard Process).
At first, if was difficult to get Susan to eat enough or frequently enough,
and she experienced a heavier detox reaction than was necessary. Once we
established her on small frequent feedings, the nausea and fatigue began to
subside, and she began to sleep well.

6/21/95

Good response to treatment so far. Vital force seems relatively strong.

Medorrhinum 200C

7/5/95

TBM: Tx: Mercury toxicity of kidney. Nutrition-add ProSystox I (heavy metal
detoxifier), apricot kernels (3/day) and 5 gins vitamin C, emphasize
sulfur-bearing compounds in foods. Neuro-Emotional Technique clearing.

8/3/95

Weekly chiropractic treatments.

Much more energy. No nausea for 3 weeks. Blood pressure normalizing. BP
130/74 prior to treatment. Great improvement in appearance of skin. Skin
more "relaxed." Continue weekly visits. Blood pressure medication (Capitan)
eliminated slowly over several weeks. Cutting down on Prednisone slowly.
Vermifuge program ended.

Medor 1M

8/16/95

TBM: Tx: Lead arsenate (kidney); blood pressure degeneration technique.
Nutrition: Vitamin C (6g), pycnogenol, bromelain, Spanish black radish,
ProSystox I, apricot kernels, sulfur-bearing foods. Renatrophin, Kidney
Liquescence (sarcode); vitamins B6, B12, folic acid.

8/31/95

Medical Report. Blood work normal, except BUN (which is improved), less
protein in urine. Railed at injustice of medical doctor who told her blood
work is normal, but since there is no remission in scleroderma, she still
has it. She said she told the doctor off.

Blood pressure 120/80 staying regular, Capitan eliminated.

Tx: allergy to own blood

9/6/95

Many people commenting on how well she looks. After blood work report, she
stopped taking care of herself, went off diet, not resting. BP 160/90, so
she took some Capitan. Bending forward, heart palpitations. Discouraged.

9/21/95

Causticum 200C

Nutrition: AOX/PLX (antioxidant formula), beta carotene, micellized A, B12

10/2/95

Vomiting, menstrual cramps, heart racing, joint pain. Very discouraged,
feels she is relapsing. During this month, generally not taking care of
self and working too hard. Then, she went on retreat and was unable to
follow the diet. However, good emotional clearing while on retreat. All of
that story aside, most symptoms were actually due to influenza. She felt
much better by end of the treatment.

We had a serious motivational talk. I told her that although the symptoms
are easing up when she takes care of herself and her bloodwork is normal,
she is far from well, that it would take about a year to build up her
strength enough to recover completely. She promised to go back on the
wagon.

10/9/95

Good rest, looks improved greatly, all renal, digestive and
cardiovascular-vascular symptoms gone. Resting well.

First Raynaud's symptoms since July with onset of cold weather.

10/16/95

Raynaud's still a problem. Constipation more of a problem with reduction in
Prednisone.

10/25/95

TBM testing revealed a thyroid connection with Raynaud's. Stimulation of
thyroid, fingers turned pink immediately, toes warmed up. Nutrition: add
thyroid and hypothalamus/pineal protomorphogen

11/1/95

Feels stuck. Mentioned again anger at rheumatologist who told her there was
no remission in scleroderma. I joked that she would really know she was
well when they tell her if there was a misdiagnosis and that she never had
scleroderma. She gave me a peculiar look, and then told me that the kidney
specialist had already told her that.

11/16/95

Still some Raynaud's -- less frequency, less intensity -- fingers and toes
only turning white no purple, cold sensation but no pain No tachycardia or
apnea.

TBM: Tx polio vaccine, flu vaccine as allergies

11/30/95

Feels like I can't swallow meat. Upset stomach 10 minutes after eating.

12/1/95

Stable, but mild Raynaud's symptoms and depression.

12/11/95

TBM: Tx in utero polio vaccine as allergy

Causticum 1M

12/21/95

Has felt very well the past few weeks. Good energy, no kidney, pulmonary,
or digestive problems. Occasional Raynaud's -- fingers, toes get cold,
slightly white briefly -- warm up easily. Fewer episodes of depression.
Really confident of complete recovery now. Willing to do what it takes.

DISCUSSION: A simple search of Reference Works for scleroderma, under skin,
produced 31 remedies, several of which I had already considered while
taking the case. The presence of familial alcoholism and another sibling
with scleroderma made me feel that the miasmatic aspects of this case were
very strong. After working with Susan for a couple of weeks, I assessed her
vital force and immune response to treatment as relatively strong. She had
mounted a very strong detox reaction and was able to bounce back quite
well, and also responded very quickly to treatments. I decided to open with
a nosode, rather than waiting. The appearance of the fingernails and
toenails and the growth of the connective tissue seemed to point to
medorrhinum, although the patient was quite chilly. The chilliness led me
to think of vaccininum as well. Using reflex arm testing confirmed
medorrhinum at a 200C potency. In general, Susan responded well to this
dosage. About 6 weeks later, I gave a 1M. with various highs and lows,
Susan has progressed quite well in level of energy, reduction of physical
symptoms, strength and mood.

The center of focus of the illness was very strongly in the physical
sphere, with the heart and kidneys severely compromised, but with a mental
causation. I had considered a number of constitutional remedies: silica for
the skin problems and the fatigue in a strong - willed quiet person; the
natrums came to mind with the profound emotional problems in the convent
and the probability of repressed hurt in adolescence as well as the
reaction to the sun; hepar sulf as a skin remedy with great chilliness and
fatigue.

Causticum, however, which has scleroderma (Boericke) if its symptom picture
covers the mental, emotional and physical spheres quite well. Boericke's
introduction describes chronic rheumatic afflictions, drawing pains in the
muscular and fibrous tissues, progressive loss of muscular strength;
dark-complected, rigid-fibred persons. In respiratory, we see pain in chest
with palpitations. The extremities and back sections describe the
musculo-skeletal symptoms and in the mind section, Boericke describes
"effects of anger, disappointment, and grief; sadness, sympathetic."
Morrison describes causticum as" sincere, intense, idealistic; angry over
injustices to self and others; rebellious; political; hates authority."

I gave Susan 200C causticum in mid-September and a 1M dose about 3 months
later. She has progressed very well in that time on a physical level. On
the mental level, she is putting her convent experiences into a greater
perspective and starting to use them to leverage the next stage in her
mental and spiritual growth. Susan is starting to strain at the inactivity
of recovery and wants to work in healing again. I've told her that she's
only allowed to think for now, but no action for at least 3 more months.
She still needs to recover her full strength physically.

Dear Shannon

I think you have put your finger on a VERY major point.

Treating particular symptoms in their singularity ALWAYS leads to
suppression.

Hn teaches us to treat the WHOLE. And also pay attention to maintaining
causes which cover in this case oral hygiene.

The use of potentised remedies does not mean that the treatment is
homoeopathic - can be allopathic as Atiq has kindly demonstrated.

Homoeopathy works on the basis of symptom similarity and please let us never
forget the three-legged stool.

Soroush
