Symptoms of war

Has anyone seen any information on the type and treatment of symptoms related to war? I have read articles related to 9/11, but am thinking there may be other symptoms attached to conflicts of lengthy duration. Also, I would imagine there are many variants in perspective. For example:

Forces in the conflict
Forces returning home
Families of soldiers
Folks living in the midst of it all
Folks watching the 'breaking news' from afar
etc.

I'm sure there are remedies that can help with all of these scenarios and am wondering if lengthy 'exposure' to any of the above situations would result in a 'chronic' vs. 'acute' set case.

I've purposely tried to keep this request generic, as I know there is more than one conflict occurring and that there are strong opinions on 'both' sides of each issue. I'm not making any political statement, just looking for information. Any feedback will be appreciated.

i recall there were many studies of children who survived WWII.
one book in particular was by bruno bettleheim, i think. this
book explored the psychology of children were orphaned and
abandonned during the war and their survival mechanisms and
foibles.

another point that comes to mind was a workshop on plutonium
as one remedy for people who went through some of the traumas
of war.

hope this offers some avenues of research
