Hello List,

Would appreciate learning of anyone's experiences, MM and/or essence
of Ricinus-communis (Castor Oil plant). I have what is in Vermeulen,
Clarkes etc but I am looking for more information. For those of you
with homoeopathic computer programs I would also be grateful for the
listed rubrics of same (Andy?). Also, any thoughts on doctrine of
signature correlations etc (Joy?).

Thanking you,
Tan.

A big ask but I only have time for a little reply :-)

One of the Euphorbia family = lots of issues about being powerless, bound up
and a need to break free. Some violence because of this. Sensations as if
drawn back and drawn together, a 'to and fro' sort of state.

Specifically in this instance it is the brain which is overpowered - sudden
pain as if seized by something. There are a lot of control issues. Anorexia
features in this remedy.

There is also purging, which is a way of breaking free and this tends to be
violent - thus there is an affinity to the gastro intestinal tract. Again,
the anorexic, who might also be bulimic, comes into the picture. There was a
recent discussion about this state.

Has also an affinity to the breasts and increasing breast milk. Maybe there
could be a history of not having been breast fed = a lack of nutrition and a
lack of nurture, I am not sure about this.

I think Boericke has this remedy in the MM.

Hope useful, best, Joy

Dear Joy & Tan

.
there
a
There is a much more "useful" description in Clarke; quite a long para
describing the use of the leaves and a decoction made from them as a
galactagogue among the women of the Cape Verde Islands.

Castor oil (Ric-c in a crude state) has the ability when massaged into the
breasts to act as a galactagogoue and I can confirm that from clinical
practice.
From the Doctrine of Signatures implication described in Clarke my thought
is that it works in the crude state because of its tendency to induce heat
and inflammation.
An increase of blood to the area brings more hormone (prolactin) which
results in an increased supply of milk. (As an aside, massage of the breast
with other warming oils which have an affinity for improving circulation
such as the citrus oils and aniseed, also help to increase milk production.)
Care should be taken to exclude the nipple from any oil. Not only will it
result in the baby being badly affected but it will introduce the oil into
systemic circulation of the mother thereby < the gut.
I always recommend using castor oil only at night when the baby tends to
have a longer time away from the breast and to thoroughly wash the breast
before giving the baby another breastfeed.

Its usefulness in potency as a galactagogue is probably simply a reflection
of the observed historical use in the crude state.

regards
Patricia
