6X/water dose question

Hi all,
I have limited experience both with X potency and with water doses, but now
I'm wanting to give 6X in water dose, and wonder what the usual dose would
be? I'd especially like to hear from anyone who actually *uses* 6x potency
in water dose, as the "theory" seems a bit indefinite to me.
6x is very much in the realm of "material dose", so (according to my
experience and understanding) size of dose will (or might) matter. But when
I put a single pellet into an ounce or two of water and succuss heartily, is
the dose still material, and is the size of the dose still important? Would
i give a single drop, a dropperful, or something in between?
I realize that the patient's response is the bottom line, but this is
someone who really needs a remedy, and really *doesn't* need an aggravation,
so I'm hoping that the experience of others can help to put me in the right
ballpark, without having to start at a single drop and perhaps edge up
interminably...
