I can rep Bulimia but I don't think it means what we know as anorexia bulimia. I also can't find a rubric to cover making herself vomit. Any suggestions. I have no intention of basing my prescription on this but am just interested in whether there are rubrics to cover it.

Hi Rochelle,

How is "bulimia" different from "anorexia bulimia"? I thought anorexia
meant not eating and bulimia meant binge-and-purge?

could be applicable if she gets into a somewhat frenzied state before the
need to vomit and interestingly there are Kaliums in this rubric) +
'frequent vomiting'.

Depends what suits the case.

But isn't the vomiting in bulimics physically and artificially induced?
(finger down the throat??)

My understanding was that these people enjoy the food and because they do
not want to get fat, they vomit so that they do not digest it.

I think the rubric below refers to stomach vomiting its contents without the
throat stimulation.

Dear Soroush, I pretty much agree with Chris' reply in another post and so I
do think there is relevance in the rubrics I suggested.

I would also say that it isn't always possible to find the obvious in a
repertory and side tracking has to be reliable and appropriate - to the case
as always.

I also wanted to hint at the kaliums as a group that cover a great deal
about the habits of someone who is bulimic and/or anorexic - many of them
having a lot of issues around gorging and refusing to eat coupled with
vomiting and stomach disorders. Juts didn't have the time to write about it
in depth.

There is also 'delusion he/she must starve' and there are at least 2 kaliums
in that rubric and I would include others as well. It is an important group
to consider for anorexia/bulimia imho.

bulemia is not about enjoying the food so much. a binge may start out that way, but in very short
time, there is no enjoyment. the behavior is driven by compulsion and it is an addictive behavior.
in anorexia there is a great fear of getting fat. but the underlying cause has to do with trying to
find a way to apply some control in ones life. there may be a reaction to a very controlling and
demanding family life that makes the person feel so out of control. and of course there are the
underlying self-esteem issues that manifest in fears of being fat. but control issues are at core
of this condition.

overeating disorders may employ bulemia, too. and the underlying emotional mechanisms are a bit
in reverse. binging is a kind of release of the stress of having to maintain control. it can also be a
weapon against the self for perceived wrongs or failures; ie, self-punishment. this is just a minimal
description.

people induce vomiting as part of controlling a condition in their lives--fear of being/becoming fat.
they also use laxatives and excessive exercising. these can be very destructive behaviors as well

i once heard janet snowdon do a workshop on anorexia which was very interesting. however, she like
most homeopaths are not focusing on other eating disorders. if people want to read some good material
on overeating, i would recommend geneen roth's books. they are easily available, inexpensive, and easy
to read. she writes from personal experience and can enlighten on this subject.

Thank you Joy and Chris and other colleagues.

Two interesting cases come to mind.

One is Princess Diana. Apparently on one of her first meetings with Charles,
he holds her by the waist and says OH we are little podgy here, which sets
her off on the course of digestive problems which we know about.

I had a patient also who was a very bright top Uni 20-year old student. She
had been eating too much and a friend of hers had said that if she continues
the way she is going she will be really over weight (implying you are over
weight now). The patient had taken immediate offence and hatred for her
friend (I do not want to see or speak with her again) and the gone off on a
course of just eating carrots and cucumbers and tomatoes to the degree that
her skin had gone yellow from the carotene. A year+ after the comment she
was brought to me by her mum because her periods had stopped.

Sepia followed by Nux and advice on diet got her going. (With thanks to Dr
Shahrdar who finished the case as I had to leave Iran.)

So as you say the idea or 'delusion he/she must starve' must become very
profound.

I now think I understand the stomach and vomiting rubric better, of course
if you fill it to bursting (half the contents of the royal fridge), you will
vomit!

Isn't it amazing what some thoughtless remark can cause? I should bite my
tongue more!!
