Chronic Diseases - Samual Hahnemann - 1

Nature of Chronic Diseases.
The Homoeopathic healing art, as taught in my own writings and in those of my pupils, when faithfully followed, has hitherto shown its natural superiority over any allopathic treatment in a very decided and striking manner; and this not only in those diseases which suddenly attack men (the acute diseases), but also in epidemic diseases and in sporadic fevers.
Venereal diseases also have been radically healed by Homoeopathy much more surely, with less trouble and without any sequelae; for without disturbing or destroying the local manifestation it heals the internal fundamental disease from within only, through the best specific remedy. But the number of the other chronic diseases on this great earth has been immeasurably greater, and remains so.

Thanks Farbod, I think this is a great idea. Don't know what to discuss in
this part, tho... I look forward to it!

Salutations Dr. Farbod,

Samual or is it Samuel writes;
"Venereal diseases also have been radically healed by Homoeopathy much
more surely, with less trouble and without any sequelae; for without
disturbing or destroying the local manifestation it heals the internal
fundamental disease from within only, through the best specific remedy."
In Organon § 147 Hahnemann writes,
"Whichever of these medicines that have been investigated as to their
power of altering man's health we find to contain in the symptoms
observed from its use the greatest similarity to the totality of the
symptoms of a given natural disease, this medicine will and must be the
most suitable, the most certain homoeopathic remedy for the disease; in
it is found the specific remedy of this case of disease."

Hahnemann is speaking of a specific remedy for a specific disease, "the
most certain homoeopathic remedy for the disease", now, I have always
thought, perhaps incorrectly, an illness is specific to the individual,
and searched for a patient specific simillimum in relation to their
diseased state.

My question is should one search out a patient specific simillimum, or a
disease specific simillimum?

Regards,

Anthony Gunterman

My impression has always been that Hahnemann was talking about the individual's totality of symptoms as "the disease" and that he wasn't referring to modern allopathic disease labels.

If I may enter this conversation, my own interpretation is that one should
look for the "similimum specific similimum": the totality of the symptoms as
presented by the particular patient...

I am not trying to be glib: The *individual* patient will present
*individual* symptoms, which, when viewed in their totality, will lead the
homoeopath to the specific remedy which corresponds to what is presented.

Perhaps on occasion this may seem disease specific, and on occasion patient
specific. This however does not detract from the final result of the
prescription.

Best
Eleana
