1. peds think if someone had the vax it couldn't possibly be and don't test
(most of the cases of pertussis are in vaccinated - the vaccine doesn't
prevent - and I've seen pertussis in children just vaccinated - its a
killed vaccine - explain that one from their perspective
2. unvaxed - they don't test those either - I've had parents have to
DEMAND one

And as far as notification - not sure if notification is done on symptoms
alone or requires the test

Dear All in this thread,
I read in one book 'Symptoms of diseases of children' by Illingworth,
An English allopath (an old and standard book for Indian colleges),
he mentions that any persisting cough be treated as whooping cough
whether the whoop is present or not. Makes great sense to use
pertussin.

I am myself a father of a vaccine damaged child with an unexplained
cough sometimes complicated with wheezing who got steadily better
with tub first and then the indicated remedies on characteristics.
But this idea is nice. May be I will prescibe for other patients.

Hi Sheri,

In the Uk, notification is required after diagnosis, not necessarily on
testing.

So, as the doctor does not diagnose w. cough (because the child has been
vaccinated, hence could not be doing w. cough!!!!!), there is no need to notify.

I have been trying to raise awareness of this over here for a long time,
because I see so much w. cough. The problem is that most parents are not
interested in demanding a test to confirm the illness; also I wonder whether a test
would confirm positive once pertussin has started its effect - I am not sure
about this one.

Thanks for the info.
Haven't had a whooping cough kiddo or adult yet, in UK.
So as homeopaths, we are required to notify if we diagnose (in US
homeopaths aren't even allowed to diagnose!)

Re the patient that came in today - it was a straight Rumex case so I wasn't able to try out the Pertussin but I will keep it in mind!!

Hi Sheri,

As far as I know, homeopaths in the UK are not allowed to notify childhood
illnesses (what they call contagious), otherwise the number of notifications
would have multiplied perhaps tenfold by now (maybe more) from just patients from
my practice!!!!
