you'll find the cheapest, richest source of selenium is brazil nuts. 1 brazil nut has an average of 80 mcg more than enough for the usual required intake.

Wow!!!
In light of the emphasis on not getting more than 200 mcg/day, can one get a
toxic overdose from them??? Or is this a(nother) case where "natural" is
tolerated better??? Most people don't chow down on Brazil nuts the way they
do on some others, but-??

Hi Shannon
Well no, I wouldn't think there'd be harm. How many people do you know who are eating more than 5 -6 nuts a day every day for months on end???

I really wouldn't know if there is toxicity in overdosing on Brazils . I doubt an occasional snack of selenium-powered brazil nuts will do anyone harm. (except to gain a few kilos from these fat-laden nuts)

Still, even PLWHAs (People Living with HIV/AIDS) in USA are advised to keep the dose low or short-term (on again, off again)

Here in Kenya- as expensive (and "elite") as imported Brazil nuts are as a "snack"- they are still the cheapest source of selenium around - more cheap than supplements. We prescribe them as free supplements to our destitute HIV+ patients- 1 nut a day- with remarkable results.
