And this gives credence to the fact that Calc fluor and Fluoric acid are
useful thyroid remedies (amongst many others) - when the case fits.

Here is one - fluoride and many of you drink fluoridated water which is
really really bad.

But the thing is you can't always 'figure it all out' - Aphorism 1
Treating homeopathically is often all that is needed WITHOUT
supplementation; or you have to look at diet; or look to fluoride.
But I would start with homeopathic treatment & diet.

This site has a lot of interesting info.

I agree mostly, but also one must remove the offending element, (maintaining
cause) or else, no amount of Homeopathic remediation will do anything. So,
in the case of fluoridated water, the clients have to stop drinking tap
water or get a good water distiller or an RO system. Activism, of course,
but that is a political, ideological activity, which is a personal choice.
And it will not alleviate the suffering of the individual clients coming to
us for help...

Also, knowledge of clinical nutrition, I think, is most important for
Homeopaths. So many practitioners I know tend to insist, almost with a
religious fervor that Homeopathic remedies will do everything. That is not
the case and Hahnemann never said that. A nutritional deficiency has to be
corrected and it can be corrected only with good knowledge.

For example, for the case we are discussing: it is true that Fluoride is an
iodine antagonist. But did you know that Selenium and Zinc are antagonists
to Fluoride? Here is a simple small study that proved it for mainstream:

[Effects of selenium and zinc on the DNA damage caused by fluoride in
pallium neural cells of rats]

[Article in Chinese]

Chen J, Chen X, Yang K.

Department of Environmental Health, Tongji Medical University, Wuhan

To investigate the effects of fluoride on DNA damage as well as the
effects of selenium and zinc against fluoride respectively or jointly in
pallium neural cells of rats, single cell gel electrophoresis was used to
detect the DNA damage of neural cells prepared in vitro. The results showed
that the degree of DNA damage in the fluoride group and the selenium group
were significantly greater than that in control group (P < 0.01). The damage
in the fluoride group was even more serious. The damage in the fluoride +
selenium group and fluoride + zinc group was slighter than that in the
fluoride group but with no significant difference. The extent of DNA damage
in the fluoride + selenium + zinc group was significantly slighter than that
in the fluoride group(P < 0.05). It suggested that fluoride and selenium
could induce DNA damage in pallium neural cells of rats respectively.
Moreover, the joint antagonistic effect of selenium and zinc against
fluoride was more obvious.

And here is another one, even more important, on the interaction between
Flouride and Selenium
http://www.fluoride-journal.com/02-35-3/353-168.pdf

More importantly, Selenium is crucial in the metabolism, much more so than
thought before. In addition to iodine, selenium is a critical mineral for
maintaining proper function of the thyroid gland. In order for the thyroid
to produce the most active form of its hormone (a version of thyroid hormone
that is called T3), selenium is not only essential, but also helps regulate
the amount of hormone that is produced.

Here is an article that anyone even slightly concerned with Thyroid
function, hypothyroidism and metabolic disease should read:

http://www.greenwillowtree.com/tides/Pa ... odine.html

Dietary deficiency is the most common cause of selenium deficiency. Because
plant content of selenium is so heavily dependent on the selenium content of
the soil, researchers have been able to identify different areas of the
world where selenium deficiency is particularly common.

For example, several areas of Africa, Russia, New Zealand, and China have
been identified as high-risk selenium deficiency areas. In the United
States, parts of the Pacific Northwest, parts of the Great Lakes region
moving eastward toward the New England states, and parts of the Atlantic
Coast have also been identified as selenium-deficient regions. Living in
these regions and eating foods grown within them could contribute to risk of
selenium deficiency. However, I have not seen many studies connecting
Thyroid problems with these areas of the world, but I am ready to bet that
there is a connection!

Homeopathically, the remedy Selenium has a vast MM and should be studied to
see how the potentized element could work. I have not found a proving of
Selenium Fluoride (or hexafluoride) or any of the combinations. It would be
interesting though to prove some of these elements and see if they would
help in Goiter and thyroid malfunction.

Yes Joy, that¹s yet another soap box we are opening! I have 7 years¹ worth
of files from my activism days with Citizens for Safe Drinking Water, if you
are interested....

Fluoridation of the water and putting it into toothpaste (and therefore into
everyone¹s mouth....) is one of the nastiest Œexperiments¹ that continue in
spite of all the evidence against it, promoted by special interest groups.
Hydrofluosylicic Acid (and NOT Sodium Fluoride) is what is being added into
most of the US fluoridated water systems. This substance is a waste product
of the pesticide industry and is considered highly toxic. Nobody has ever
tested it on humans. Instead of paying a lot of money to dispose of it, the
pesticide industry cut itself a cushy deal with the American Dental
Association, and the result is that the pesticide industry is PAID now by
the taxpayers to dispose of this stuff into our water supply....

Fluoride in toothpaste is poison as well. Take a look, those in the USA, at
any toothpaste tube and see the Toxicology warning on it: if a child
swallows as much as the size of a pea of any toothpaste with fluoride (in
this case, sodium fluoride...) he/she must be taken immediately to the
poison center!

And we can Œtreat¹ homeopathically as many brown discolorations to the teeth
as we want, but, as long as the patient is using fluoridated ANYTHING, we
will not help much. Brown crumbling teeth are the result of fluoridation.
Mental symptoms such as in ADD and ADHD are tied to fluoride in the brain as
well.

So, we must practice defensive medicine, without a doubt. And remember,
that the pristine times when Hahnemann lived are something we can only dream
of nowadays. More than 50,000 new chemicals have been added to our food and
environment in the 20th century.... And they are continued to be added as
we speak.

Hi Sara,

I was told that fluoride is not removed either by RO or by distilling
(because the molecule is so small and light, I think). There is a special
filter now available for it, but don't know what company(s) have it --
anyone?

Re the selenium and zinc connections, did you see mention of what amounts
are considered effective?

You were told wrong, Shannon.

Distillation and RO are the only means of removing Fluoride and its
compounds from water unless you have a special filter. It is true that all
other filters fail to remove it due tot he size of the molecule, which is
smaller than that of water. Distillation of water removes EVERYTHING, and
RO removes most everything. The filter that will remove Fluoride will
remove probably also everything...

Hi Sara,

Okay, I did a web-read, and I see that you're right about fluoride (tho I
read that it "significantly reduces" the amount, rather than entirely
eliminates it). I'm happy to know that! (Maybe I mis-remembered because at
the time I wasn't considering distillation or RO, for other reasons...)

But I also read that: "Some volatile organic contaminants (VOCs), certain
pesticides and volatile solvents, boil at temperatures very close to water
(207-218 degrees Fahrenheit). These types of contaminants will not be
substantially reduced in concentration by distillation. Properly equipped
distillers can reduce VOC concentrations effectively." (from the North
Dakota State University, NDSU Extension Service website) Probably not an
issue for most water supplies, but maybe worth being aware of.
Best,
Shannon

You are right in the VOC issue. And your conclusion is also true. That is
why, when the time comes to invest in a really good water
filtration/purification system for your home, I may be able to offer you
some really good ideas. I don¹t like distilled water and have gone through
the RO only to find out the the end result was a problem: water being the
universal solvent, it did take out minerals from the body. We live in
complicated times and we need to do our best without going to extremes.
