Good homoeopathic practice (was: Hypertension)

Dear Tanya,
please don't regard the following lines directed to you personally -
it's more or less a follow-up of JWs rant:
to try and use homeopathy for oneself is just one side of the coin. Of
course it's good to get educated about one's own health, but that stays
within one's own responsibility.
The more important thing is - and that's why I'm absolutely d'accord
with Julian's view:
there are many people who only have a very superficial view of
homoeopathy, but don't hesitate to recommend remedies to others.
There is a well-known proverb in German:
well-meant is the opposite of well-done.
To understand homoeopathy, as we all know, takes a LOT of time, reading
and practice - though in the beginning the principles do in fact look
easy to master. Beside of that, if we try do deal with health, we have
to understand a lot of common diseases, of physiology, anatomy,
pathology to be able to know where our own limits are, what we have to
expect on a certain disease state, when and where it's ok to watch and
wait, and when such a behaviour could prove fatal.
Every recommendation of a remedy to a patient means taking over a LOT of
responsibility - but often these recommendations are handled via the web
in the same way as one would recommend a new sort of fruit, vegetable or
cookie.
Try this and try that - a dangerous sort of game, in my opinion.
More dangerous in fact than recommending a conventional medicament to
somebody - because many people are aware of possible side-effects of
allopathic medicines, and many or most of the side-effects can be read
in the papers attached to the packet.
Whereas the effects of a leisurely taken homoeopathic remedy are seldom
(if ever) recognized by an untrained patient or a common doctor. So it
may be possible, that after just one or a few doses of a homoeopathic
remedy new symptoms are developped, that aren't recognized as part of
the remedy, but simply treated by a conventional doctor.
Would you hand a scalpell to an untrained medical student in his first
year and ask him to do a surgery of a vital organ?
Of course, not. Silly question.
We know about the power of our remedies - and yet some people treat them
as if they were blunt knives in the hands of anybody who uses them in
the wrong way, and sharp only, when they hit the point.
I often miss the RESPECT for the power of the remedies - there are
enough case histories, personal experiences (on this list, too) to
document that averse effects can be seen (as initial aggravations, as
effects of a bad remedy choice, etc.) and need to be accompanied and
handled by an experienced homoeopath, and it's not always an easy task.
Therefore I agree:
training of people is necessary - and the first thing they should learn
is:
what are the cases where they could try homoeopathic treatment - and
where are the borders.
Especially when it comes to recommending treatment for others.
End of rant.
All the best,
Gaby
