Dear Julian,
Tanya (aka Tan) here . I wrote to you some time ago when you were
to play at the same event...not sure if that was last year or the
year before. I SOOooo wanted to meet with you but was unable to make
the venue at that particular time.
To refresh who I am...I am a classical homoeopath and registered
holistic animal practitioner from the Lismore/Bryon Bay/Murwillumbah
region who sees both human and animal patients. I also work as a
relief veterinary nurse so have a useful liason with the veterinary
community in my region that has provided me the good fortune to
implement homoeopathy through those channels. While treating ALL
living creatures, I have been a horsewoman for over 35 yrs so my
specialty is equine therapy. However, recently I have been in the
media about dairy herd homoeopathy and next week will be interviewed
for a new TV show called State Focus that is about to air for the
first time.
My partner Phil has been a muso himself for over 35 yrs...a youngster
at the end of the 60's folk boom. While his friends were getting into
Rolling Stones, Phil was getting into the New Lost City Ramblers and
back to the source of Kentucky Mountain music, Rosco Holcombe and
all. He has always maintained his love of folk and roots music. He
owns recordings or is familiar with most of the people you have
played with!! I had him take a look at your site just the other day
and he was gobb-smacked at sighting all those familiar names and
faces that he so loves. He has your album called Old Time Banjo
Project which he has been carrying around for too many years to
remember . He dabbled in string band music in the 70's with
his brother who played frailing banjo but has diversified a lot since
then. He now writes much of his own stuff and he and his band are
almost finished producing their second commercial CD. His chief
instrument is a Gibson mandolin. I first met Phil when he had this
great bluegrass band with his best friend being a banjo player.
Nothing happens for weeks and then the one weekend turns up when
everything is on
We have already a prior engagement to give Phil's old folks a holiday
break away for 3 days that weekend. Phil's father is blind and his
mother is his carer though can barely walk too far herself. We are
their chief means of a break away and haven't had the chance for
about 5 yrs to do this for them as we are both incredibly busy.
However, IF we can make it we are still going to try to make the
effort to see you at Chermside. We are to book out of the motel we
are staying at on the Sunday morning and then drive the folks back
home, and if it's not pushing ourselves too much we will then drive
back up to Brisbane to see you! We both have to work Monday so would
also have to drive back that same night, so we will have to see how
we go!
Should we not make it...please, please...let us know when you are
back again to play music in Brisbane (I imagine for the same event
next year).
Could you be a bit more specific of when you are likely to play on
the Sunday? Will it still be closely on the heels of 5 pm? What time
does the whole event begin? Do we need to book ahead and how much are
the tickets? I know Phil was a bit dubious last time about the level
of quality of the general players and wasn't so keen but now that he
has viewed what you are about he is most keen to at least see your
performance and hopefully get a few words with you .
