Digest Number 1355

Post by June Sayer »

Hi Ruth,

I have only treated one patient with PSP. Originally came to see me in
1994 complaining of depression. She seemed to improve and I lost track of
her for 2 years, when she returned to say that she had been diagnosed with
PSP. One theory is that the nerve endings are destroyed by a virus.

It was very sad to watch and see her slowly deteriorate and sense the
tremendous frustration that she must have gone through. She suffered
outbursts of uncontrollable shreiking and laughter. I contacted the PSP
assocation and was advised that they had never had success with homoeopathy
but like you I felt I had nothing to lose.

Although I gave her constitutional treatment, it became palliative as she
suffered with dry eye, constipation, rigidity, etc., but the one remedy that
I kept her on for quite a while was Manganum Oxydatum - (from Murphy's
Materia Medica)

'stolid mask-like face, low monotonous voice, "economical speech".
occasional uncontrollable laughter'

Sadly she was admitted to a nursing home and eventually lost her fight for
life about 2 years ago.

I wish you luck with any help that you can give this person.

Best wishes

Has anyone had success in treating PSP - progressive supranuclear
palsy? This is the disease Dudley Moore had. Apparently nerves
deteriorate so that the victim looses control of his muscles, first
of the voluntary movement, then of involuntary. Victims don't die of
the disease, they die of something like pneumonia because of the
inability to cough up food in the lungs after problems swallowing
allowed food to go into the lungs. Short description, but you get
the idea.

I know someone with this disease, a 50-ish father of 5 who is now in
a nursing home with a stomach tube for feeding. When I learned about
his disease, I was taught homeopathy wouldn't be very helpful, since
he had already lost some nerve function and I thought even homeopathy
couldn't regenerate nerves.

Recently I went to a homeopathy seminar and the instructor said he
thought it was possible for nerves to regenerate and when I told him
about this person and he thought there wasn't anything to lose by
trying.

So I'm rethinking this and want to talk to his wife about seeing a
homeopath with perhaps more experience than I have.

Has anyone had experience with this or a similar disease? I think
this is very close to Creutzfield-Jacobs (sp?) disease, or the human
mad cow disease.

Thanks for your input,
Ruth Pearson Smith

Dear Ruth,

Although Homeopathy is your first priority, don't forget support of
essential fatty acids, which primarily make up the Myelin Sheath... Cod
Liver oil among others work very well on this type of thing, and Nordic
Naturals make some which taste fairly decent... unlike the old kind which
make you gag..... Remembering the movie Lorinzo's Oil, where the boy has
the disease of the myelin sheath disease, which they found a cure for, but
too late for their own son's healing... but which helped many other kids....
(I don't think they ever used homeopathy though...) Also, electramagnetic
medicine, such as the Scenar may be of significant help in nerve
stimulation...and healing.

Hope this is helpful.

Ruth have you looked at Naja as a possibility for PSP?
